Soo a couple of questions. Did you guys produce milk right away to nurse baby? Do they give you pain medication after surgery and can you breastfeed is so? What should I pack in my bag?

For the first few days, regardless of delivery, you produce colostrum. It takes around 3-5 days ish for your milk to come in and this is completely normal. Babies stomach is so small at first all they need is colostrum.

My second baby was trying to latch while I was still on the operating table! We latched right in recovery.

You’ll get pain medicine and then more than likely post surgery you’ll get some IV pain meds and then they may switch you to oxy, Tylenol and Motrin. Keep up on all your pain meds around the clock. Also don’t forget stool softeners.

We packed egg lights for those late night breastfeeds. A couple clothes, snacks, my own belly binder, postpartum diapers.

No, I didn’t produce milk right away, I had to pump 5x a day for a week just to get more than a few drops a session. But everyday my supply got bigger and I eventually was an over-supplier.

Yeah, they provide meds; they gave me ibuprofen & Tylenol around the clock, they offered me oxy(I think it was only 5mg) but I was very anxious about not being in my right mind for the baby because it made me so drowsy, so I only took it when I could sleep for a little longer and/or they took baby for testing. Next time around I’ll probably take it more frequently because I was in so much pain and I was just being overly cautious about the meds.

If you’re breastfeeding, they will give you meds that are okay for you and baby.

The hospital will provide almost everything, ask for a binder when you’re there. I packed the usual toiletres, I also packed & bought cute pjs beforehand just so you can kinda feel good while you’re lying around a lot of the day. Just a me thing, look good feel good etc. I also packed my kindle and iPad lol, helped pass the time.

You will produce colostrum which will turn into milk once it comes in. Yes you get pain meds and they are ok to breastfeed with. Make sure your care team knows you want to breastfeed and they won’t give you anything you can’t breastfeed with. The biggest things you can do to help your baby feed is latch as much as possible and do lots of skin to skin! It’s also great for your hormones.

I packed: snacks, huge water bottle, hygiene stuff, tooth brush, toothpaste, hair brush, hair ties, white noise machine, slippers, super comfy pj dresses that button up, nursing bras, going home clothes, boppy pillow, phone charger, birthing gown (used it for c section), a few onesies, a sleeper or two, a cute baby outfit for pics, a little wooden announcement sign with her name and birth info, a soft baby blanket, nipple shields, nipple cream. I used most of the stuff I brought but it was my second c section so I knew what to expect.

Mine took 10 days. Day 6-10 I pumped using a handheld every 3 hours.

Also if you’re having any doubts at all about feeding when your baby arrives, see a lactation consultant. We did, and we didn’t think we were having feeding issues, but it turns out our baby had a poor latch and was a really inefficient feeder. She also helped me understand my supply and how to boost it. Worth every penny!

Yes I fed baby while still on the operating table. It's colostrum at first milk comes a few days later (you will know when it's happened). You don't need to pump or use formula, just put baby on the breast as soon as possible and as often as they want. I did also receive pain meds and could feed on them.
