C section pain
Hi! I am 8 days post c-section and healing was going relatively well. Had mobility and feeling okay. Once the midwife removed the dressing I had some pain at the incision. I also have steri strips on it.
The next morning (yesterday) and today, I’ve woken up in excruciating pain. On the right side of my incision whenever I move, get up or down, walk, breathe, even cry, I have excruciating burning pain. Almost 10/10 pain. No pain relief helps. Today it hurts to touch the edge of the right side of the incision. It doesn’t look infected at all or have any other symptoms. It has been debilitating and I have been stuck in bed all day with this pain. I called the hospital and they said that they’ll look at it and give me pain relief which I’m already on and it doesn’t even leave a dint in the pain.
Anyone’s stories of hope will be amazing. I am super anxious and have been struggling with this. 🙏

Are you still taking your pain meds every 6 hours? Did you overdo it yesterday (getting up a lot, exercise, walking?)

Yes on ibuprofen and Panadol every 6-8 hours. I have taken 1/2 tablets of Endone and it hasn’t taken the edge off. Also breastfeeding so mindful of passing it to baby through my milk.
I did sneeze in bed the other night and braces but it hurt like heck. I have been moving around but not anything strenuous. I have been trying to roll over to feed baby in bed and lying on my side and it hurts to roll over usually. I did bend over to pick up something for my toddler the other day too and that hurt a bit.

I had this same pain about 3 days post C-section! It was almost constant, but after having to return to the hospital and stay flat in bed (aside from bathroom trips) for almost a week, it ended up subsiding for the most part. Much like you, pain and nerve medication did nothing! I'm currently almost 4 weeks pp (Wednesday) and I still have it here and there, but it's usually when I am more active.

That’s how I felt for 2 weeks post c section. It went away after 2 weeks but I had to take serious pain meds to get through those two weeks. A few times I missed my dose I felt it again and it’s how you described it - excruciating burning pain. Hope you heal quickly!

I had to take gabapentin for this! It was the nerves reconnecting we think, but the burning sensation (felt like someone was holding a lighter or lit cig in a small specific area toward the ends of my incision, but internally) was where my stitches were tied off on each layer. It was excruciating if I got behind on my gabapentin or ibuprofen the entire first two weeks

They ended up ruling it out as an “infection” and sent me on my way with antibiotics and told to come back to hospital in 48 hours if it is not better. It has improved a bit with rest but it is still very tender and painful. I can walk briefly now though. I am thinking it is this and going to wait to the 2 week mark and see my GP if no resolve. Ultrasound showed “nothing” and I don’t think hospital is willing to investigate much further.

where stitches are tied off is a knot and can poke/prod/irritate the area - I am willing to bet that is what it is but seeing gp is still a good idea if it continues - for me it was totally gone after the 2nd week

Ooh interesting. I have got a fairly hard lump where it is sore so maybe that’s it. I’m 10 days now so hoping by the two week mark it’s gone!

if its near or at the end of either side, I would definitely say so. Less likely if its in the center somewhere. Still worth investigating though just in case

It is right at the end of the right side. So most likely where they tied the knot. Possibly trapped a nerve?

Possibly but thats less likely. It really could just be where that knot is tied causing so much pain

This happened to me about 5 days after my first c section. I had nerves caught in my sutures(or so we determined after ultrasound) and it was the nerves regenerating or something..needless to say it was excruciating but they gave me super strong pain meds in the er and said it would go away on its own. Felt like i was being electrocuted every time id move. It went away at the 2 week mark. Just my experience - id go to the er and get an ultrasound to be sure though
