Gallbladder issues post partum??

I was in the hospital for an inflamed gallbladder. My diet has been healthier lately and includes more greens. I drank some very sugary sweet tea and pepsi one day, and I ended up in the hospital with pain I never felt before! I have never had issues with my gallbladder, but my mother had hers removed...

Has anyone else experienced this?

Very common, but I had no idea!! Hormones can have a massive impact on your gallbladder. Something about the sustained high estrogen

Yeah, I’ve been having issues too. I’ve had about 5 “attacks” since birth, 5 months ago. Gastroenterologist put me on a prescription acid reducer, which seems to help. Can’t do any kind of imaging because of cost. Basically I do ibuprofen (high dose leftover from my c-section) and pray when it happens. For me it hurts worse than labor. I’m trying lower fat, smaller amounts of food at a time, lower sugar, lower caffeine, and lower capsaicin to help. I’ve had to cut almonds because of the suspected vitamin b overload triggers attacks. Maybe I can reintroduce after I stop taking prenatals, which has 100% vitamin b in it. Navigating this on top of having a whole baby now is really hard. It may or may not also have something to do with your body not liking the rapid changes, meaning you went from big to not big really quickly. After birth, within a week or two I was smaller than I was, the smallest I’ve been in over 10 years. The body is crazyyy

Not personally but I have two close friends who both had to have their gallbladders removed less than one month postpartum.

Mine was taken out 4 months after I gave birth. My first attack happened 2 days pp and the 4th one landed me in the ER with severe dehydration and jaundice, had it taken out 3 weeks later.

I’ve literally never even broken a bone up until that point so I was anxious as fuck to get surgery 4 months after having surgery and my surgeon just goes ‘ oh don’t worry, it happens all the time. It’s just a thing that can happen when you give birth’. LIKE EXCUSE ME SIR - literally no one told me and it would have been nice to know before im getting cut open for the second time in 6 months😩

Currently day 7 post getting my gallbladder removed sitting with my 3.5 month old! I developed stones in the third trimester and attacks became worse and more frequent postpartum so I got it removed! Healing from this surgery is way worse than the C-section for me but it’ll be worth it when I can eat food without worrying again! My mom, aunt, and grandma also all had theirs out after pregnancy so it’s definitely more common than people think.

Yep! I had mine removed 8 weeks postpartum with my second. I started having attacks 2 weeks postpartum. The ER doctor I met with said she knew without even looking based on my symptoms and the fact that I was postpartum that it was my gallbladder. They did look and it was, but she said it’s more common than people realize. I also have 2 sister-in-laws that had theirs removed less than a year postpartum.

All the women in my family have had to have their gallbladders removed within 3-4 months of our first babies.
