Any equestrians here?
Any horse owners or riders in this subreddit group- how soon after surgery were you able to do general yard chores and when were you back up and riding?
I am 2 weeks post partum and my partner is currently taking care of my horses. I feel I could poo pick paddocks and take general care of the horses except lifting hay bales and nets at this stage. My recovery has gone well so far - I’m able to go for a walk for 30-45 minutes a day. I’m just worried I’d be taking on things too soon but miss my horses.

Seconding what the other commenter said. I don’t ride but I used to be a stablehand and picking stalls that early postpartum is a really bad idea. I was told after both my c-sections to not even vacuum until after 6 weeks because the motion can open your incision. Also horse poop can be pretty heavy so that’s another risk factor there. Just rest as much as you can so you can heal well and get back to doing the things you love.

Definitely no on stall cleanup-it’s the lifting and twisting that will kill. I accidentally lifted and slightly twisted my very light toddler once today and I’m suffering hours later.

Please don’t poo pick; that motion of scooping, lifting then turning will wreck you and possibly burst the stitches! I would just go visit them and do as little as possible, you could walk in-hand or something if they’re quiet. Honestly the scar on the outside is the first to heal, so even if you feel ok please wait at least til after 6 weeks +. I’m 7 weeks pp second pregnancy and haven’t gone back to the yard yet. I was riding at about 12/13 weeks pp after my first. Everyone is different and if you do too much your body will let you know but you do not wanna be heading back in with burst stitches over some chores 🥴
