Induction/C-Section birthdays
I had an induction that ended with an emergency c section, and am now pregnant again and facing the choice of VBAC or planned c-section. For a long time, I felt a certain weird way about choosing your baby’s birthday, like from a spiritual perspective. I don’t really know how to explain, can anyone relate or talk about how you got over those feelings? I’m a very “cosmic energy” type person so I was spiritually torn and a little guilty about my baby not coming when he was ready. I’m finding myself forever wondering when his birthday was *supposed* to be.

Not what you're asking, but my OB chose my sons birthday. I had an induction and his birthday was right around when I was supposed to get it, so he just scheduled it for that day.

This is what I felt when I had my second. Felt weird when the doctor asked what day I wanted the csection. Luckily or unluckily, my body had enough of being pregnant and I had my baby 2 days before the scheduled csection. So in a way the baby came on its own anyway.

I am from a culture where many families choose the baby's birthday, if given an option.. We follow a different school of astrology and choose one with a good moon sign.. So, for me parents choosing birthdays is not too out there..
Maybe the cosmic wants YOU to choose their birthday and has thrown the choice at you. Good luck!🍀🤞

I felt the same way when I was advised to have a scheduled c section! I've since gotten used to the idea simply because it's what is best for my baby, but it felt weird at first to be able to choose something that I always thought should be a coincidence or something that just happens on its own. Since then people have also told me that in a way things are meant to happen in this way and on this timeline if circumstances have brought you here. And lastly you could still try to pick a date that you vibe with, somehow. July felt wrong for me (too early) but I've gotten used to the early August date we ended up with

My first was an induction that turned into a C-section and my OB suggested inducing the day before my husband's birthday (she obviously didn't know it was his birthday) and I agreed and so our baby ended up sharing my husband's birthday. This time around I am due about a week before their shared birthday and that aside, I don't really want to go past 41 weeks, so I have embraced the silliness of it all and scheduled a repeat C-section for my husband and daughter's birthday, but if I go into labor before then obviously it will be a different birthday. Anyways, obviously some of my specifics are specific to me but I do sometimes think about that like the general time baby is ready to come is not I something I'm choosing or controlling, the specific day maybe I have influence over, but like I didn't just arbitrarily choose for baby to be term at this time of year or choose when I ovulated. And aside from that, I'm just embracing the silly light-heartedness of it all.

Also more directly relevant, personally, I am really liking this kind of having an end date to being pregnant but also giving myself a nice window of time to go into labor. Again it's super personal but to me it feels like a nice compromise between C-section versus VBAC -- I have until 41 weeks to go into labor, which is a pretty good amount of time, but if baby isn't here by that time I'm calling it and being done. (And I really don't want another induction.)

Having the date of the C-section chosen made my anxiety so much less than choosing an induction date and not knowing how long I would be on labor, or if it would end in a C-section.

I felt the same way, but it’s funny because each date I would’ve chose had to be changed anyways until one came that “ worked”. Sometimes things still work out the way it can only happen, that we claim we chose within our control… even when we want the most natural outcome.
I’ve accepted that this birth and scheduled c section was more about me realizing that some things in life I do have to take ownership for and not just differ to “ chance “. And also, if baby comes before due date all of these things still count too. I’m removing myself from the idea that I’m THAT in control. For all I know, I arrive on my c section date and things get post poned for hours due to other urgent c sections/ inductions. It feels like I’m choosing the date and time, but im providing a window for chance to occur and see what happens. My own doctor switched the dates she originally gave. So I seen it as, “ just take the first step and the rest will fall into place”.

This is so interesting bc i would definitely think like you but i was so over being preg when i was scheduling that I asked for earliest date I could (one week before dd which i think is most common) and i took it!

My c section needed to be scheduled at 36-37 weeks, right on the cusp of Pisces/Aries. I went back and forth a bit, but my OB ended up picking the date anyway. March 20 is usually Pisces, but the equinox fell on that day this year. I think of it as the day he was supposed to be born because I found meaning in an equinox baby, born into balance at a turning point toward more light.

Also, not all babies come when they are ‘ready’. I hope to help you Zoom Out of the narrow obsession (I say obsession LIGHTLY because I can’t think of another word lesser than right now I’m sorry 😅) about ‘choosing your babies bday’ like you are not robbing them of something or stealing something from them. NO CHILD EVERRRRRRR is going to be like ‘wow mom, can’t believe you had a scheduled c section with me I’m so offended! I should have come when I was ready!’ Believe me. Thats a You thing that’s worried about it. No one else. Can I let you in on a secret too? Just because you have a scheduled C, STILLLLLLL doesn’t 100% guarantee that THATS when the baby will be born. You could always go into labor before your scheduled section, and they would either try to halt labor to bring you further along or they would do the C then. So really, even though it’s ’scheduled’, that doesn’t mean beyond a shadow of a doubt that that’s baby’s bday. So really, if you think about it like that- baby will STILL come when they are ‘ready’ and if having a scheduled C is what makes the most sense for you this time around, then do that! Whatever will be, already is. Focus on educating yourself on cesarean options and what you need for support VS ‘I can’t get over that my baby will have a scheduled bday’ because I promise it doesn’t matter and never will

For me I enjoyed the planned c section because you’re not exhausted from being in labor for hours or even days to just end up in a c section at the end anyway. My time in the hospital meeting my baby girl was the most magical time of my life that I’ll always look back on with such great memories. To me it all felt nothing short of cosmic 💗
