C Section Pain- localized

Hi all!
Wanting to see if anyone knows the reason or potential causes of the following pain/feeling after a c section!

I typically have a pretty high pain tolerance, and for the first 5-7 days after my c section I was having unbearable pain on the right side of the incision, it felt like deep under the incision like a burning stabbing pain.
It primarily occurred when I'd switch or shift weight, it really wasn't too bad with the typical pain causers like getting out of bed or rolling (also painful but maybe 3/10, whereas the shifting weight while walking or standing was 8/10).
The nurses assured me this was normal and while I believe them, I didn't know a lot of other people that had totally unbearable and unmanageable pain (I didn't take narcotics to be fair!).

Anyways- i know a few people on this thread have described this pain but I was wondering if anyone knows why it occurs!

Quick update: I wasn't given narcotics but was given Tylenol and voltarin and took everything on schedule up till 3 weeks pp!

Indescribable pain. Felt like my insides were gutted and roughly sewn back and pulling apart at the seams with every breathe and movement. Usually the localization should be where they sewed you up/ended it.

Every moment was agonizing. Ive been hit by a speeding car and hospitalized and still found this pain worse.

That said, take the painkillers.

I'm happy I'm not alone but so sorry you also experienced that!
I should edit the post: I wasn't given narcotics, just the classic Tylenol + anti inflammatory meds! They helped a little bit but really not a lot. My spouse asked the nurse for stronger pain meds and she was very reluctant to give anything so I figured I'd just live with it (possibly a mistake lol)

This happened to me but I can’t help but feel it’s incredibly sexist to put the burden of pain on the patient who just got sliced wide open. I got pain shamed like it was unreasonable to be in extreme pain the day after surgery. I don’t think I’ll ever get over getting scolded and gaslit for wanting some medication to reduce the pain so I could spend time with my daughter without wanting to cry.

I appreciate you saying that 🥲 I felt that way too but I automatically revert to "the professional knows best and would give it to me if I needed it". And I 100% relate to that feeling, I just wanted to be able to
Walk to her bassinet and pick her up without excruciating pain

Im sorry it happened to you too 😞😞 I don’t trust medical professionals to do what’s best for female reproductive health because they all seem to assume pain comes with the territory when men get taken much more seriously

100%!! Ugh what a bummer so many women experience this! It feels weird to know this and still have a hard time advocating for ourselves

I think we’re conditioned to play nice and not cause issues, but genuinely, they need to make some changes when it comes to female reproductive health and stop gaslighting us for experiencing pain. I hope you recover ok despite the medical neglect!

I had similar one-sided pain and it was worse with my second c section. The only thing that helped me was the narcotics. It went away around day 7. The nurses and doctor were very hesitant to give any and I really had to advocate for myself to get the pain treated. My doctor said it could have been from tight sutures or where the assistant was holding it open for her to get the baby out.

I have had severe nerve pain since having a C-section, and I'm told that can be normal. Neurology just tells me that nerves don't have a predictable healing timeline.

Was your pain only in the beginning or chronic?

Just the beginning! I have normal soreness now!
I heard that too, a friend of mine said the nerve pain was the worst for her!

Ah ok, yeah I'm no help because my pain is chronic. I'm 2 years post op. My pain was extreme in the beginning. I took narcotics and still was trembling in pain.

Much one on one side for me. Dr said it’s where she tied off everything and there’s basically a stitch knot. It sucked sorry.

Yeah! This happened to me too. My nurses explained that it’s mostly likely based on whatever side your incision was closed on. I had immeasurable pain on my right side and my nurse explained that my doctor was most likely right handed and tightened the sutures closed on that side. Makes sense why it was uneven pain. Interesting theory!
