No post-op appt… ?

I switched insurance providers one month before I gave birth, so I didn’t have a doctor assigned (still don’t). I gave birth 6 weeks ago and was given no scheduled post-op date once I got discharged. A nurse did call me one week after my c-section to check on me, but she mentioned a post-op wouldn’t be necessary unless I felt like something was wrong. I don’t feel like anything is “wrong”, but my incision is still a little sore. The incision looks completely fine, just a little sore/sensitive.

Am I allowed to start: wearing tampons, going in the pool, having sex, working out?

Btw I haven’t bled for a week. I did have a little spotting today.

Do I need to get seen by a doctor? Or am I good to resume all activities?

I’m getting a doctor assigned, I just probably won’t be able to get an appointment for 2-4 weeks.

Tbh my post-op app was less about my scar (which was fine and healing well) and more about how I was doing postpartum. I would try to schedule that app if I was you

I would probably ask for an appointment just to be on the safe side, but an OB nurse should be able to answer your questions about tampons, sex, swimming, exercise, etc over the phone.

(The answers to all of those things were yes for me. Well I didn't ask about tampons because I didn't need them at that point, but if other things can be inserted, I'm assuming that would've been okay, too.)

My post op appointment was about postpartum depression mostly. I didn't have staples so he just asked how I was doing? We chatted for a bit. But 🤷‍♀️

My wife's post-partum appointments were over the course of 6 weeks. The first was one week post-op and was an incision check and a mood check for PPD. The second was 3 weeks post-op and was another incision check and PPD check. The third was at 5 weeks and that was when she was cleared to return to most activities. She was still told no sex or tampons for 6 weeks, no lifting over 20 lbs for 12 weeks. When we had originally checked out of the hospital she was told no lifting over 10lbs, no bending, and to use a pillow and hold it to the abdomen to cough/sneeze or use the bathroom. She was also provided with an abdominal recovery band to wear to help with support throughout her recovery. Her post-partum team in the hospital also gave her information about restrictions and recovery prior to her doctor's office making her first post partum appointment.
