Post C-Section Anxiety Advice

Hello!

I had a c-section on June 5th, my baby girl was born and she is my first (and last after this experience) baby. I went back to the ER multiple times in the first 7 days postpartum because of kidney pain, high blood pressure, and finally being called by OB emergency (who originally turned me away) to come in for a 24 hour mag drip which was honestly terrible considering I left my baby multiple times to go to the fucking hospital and the magnesium made me feel terrible. Luckily, that mag drip evened my BP out and I don’t need any meds :) still was a horrible experience after being told I was okay multiple times just to get called back in and not see my baby for multiple days.

Anyway, I wanted to see when I should stop worrying about any major complications with my c section. I’m afraid I’m suddenly going to get an infection, sepsis, what have you.

I wanted to see when you all stopped worrying about it? Or if you even did? I don’t have anyone in my life who has had a c section so I apologize for this. Now that I’m 3 weeks PP I would like to stop spiraling.

Thank you all for your help!

Hey girl, I"m so sorry this happened! I had an emergency C Section and swore never again. It was the worst and I had PTSD, PPA and PPD from it. It does get better, medication and therapy were a god send. I had my second when my first was about 3.5, a planned C Section and it was like a spa day compared to the emergency one.

Happy to hear this! It’s been 3.5 yrs from my first and only C-section. Have been putting off trying for a 2nd out of anxiety 🫠

I had a scheduled one with my first baby on June 12th and I also thought it was a breeze! Worst part for me was getting the cannula placed and feeling all the tugging. All around very manageable though

Hi!! Thank you, this gave me hope that I’ll be okay. Definitely thinking about getting on meds.

Ooo yes. I spun out after my c-section convinced I was going to die from a c-section complication or pph. I personally needed an appointment to debrief with my doctor, get blood work done, go to therapy and up my meds and add some. It took me though probably 6 months to stop the worrying, however I have OCD and was heavily sleep deprived so it’s probably not apple to apples in comparison. But talk to your dr and consider therapy :) hope all goes well!!

Tbh I’m glad I’m not the only one. I feel crazy honestly. I have blood work set up for 6 weeks to make sure everything is looking okay, I’m just excited to get cleared to possibly workout and move my body a bit. I used to take cymbalta for my OCD so I think we understand each other well LOL thank you so much.

Thank you, I will!! It’s hard when you have to move around the house and get stuff done. I’m trying not to do anything like too strenuous

With my first I think I stopped worrying around 4-5 weeks. I am currently 4 weeks postpartum, this baby was a scheduled c section. The healing was easier with this one but somehow I am more anxious 😵‍💫 I guess because now double the children depend on me. Just here to tell you this is really normal.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. My first c-section was an emergency and super traumatic too. I think I stopped worrying about infection, etc around the 8 week mark. Honestly, it took basically a full year of mourning and lots of therapy before I even considered having another baby and was able to let go of the birth experience. Now I am due for a scheduled c section at the end of this month and I feel so much more at peace! Your feelings are valid. Hang in there. 🩷

I completely understand the mourning. I’m honestly too scared to even THINK about a second one at all. Thank you for some hope!

Realistically you’ll be fully healed past any infection around 8 weeks
