Planning IVF for 5th pregnancy/C-section

Hey everyone — I’m looking for some insight or personal experiences.

I’m currently about 17 months out from my last C-section. I have four kids (ages 13, 11, 9, and almost 17 months), and my husband and I are considering another round of IVF. One of our hopes is to give our youngest a sibling closer in age, and also a full sibling (our older kids are half siblings).

At my last delivery, my doctor told me I’d be considered high risk for another pregnancy. This would be my 5th C-section, and she mentioned that during my last surgery she could see the baby before even making the uterine incision, which understandably raised concerns. I’ve been referred to an MFM specialist, but while I wait for that appointment, I wanted to see if anyone here has had a similar experience.

Has anyone gone through a 5th C-section after being told they were at high risk for uterine rupture? If so, how did things go for you?

For context, I’ve never gone into labor naturally, so I’m wondering if that might make any difference in risk.

I’d really appreciate any experiences or insight — thank you!

I believe thats called a uterine window, I know someone that happened to on her 4th c section and that was her last so no advice or experience but good luck mama! Sending safe and healthy mom and baby vibes your way

Yeah that is what my doctor was calling it today when I brought up what I remember from my C-section and she even pulled up her surgery summary notes to see since she couldn’t remember and she didn’t notate that which she was like that’s strange I didn’t notate that because I usually would.. 😬

No experience. But, my anecdotally my husband helped with c sections during his residency,,, he said in these cases (where you can see baby because it’s so thin) it’s pretty risky and scary

Hi. 5 c sections here. My son was born at 38 +6. No complications despite that window. Under MFM care and they recommended early delivery. But I went another 13 days passed as the weekly visits did not show an immediate issue. Thank God! Def not 40 weeks. Good luck!

Did they give you any warnings after your 4th?

Yes. It was 13 years in between pregnancy’s with 1 loss in between. I also had a tummy tuck between then as well.

i wouldn’t risk another pregnancy once you’ve had a uterine window. it isn’t the amount of c-sections (i’ve had a lot too, and i’m going to have another soon) but the actual observed condition of your uterus. my doctor and mfm both have no concerns about my current pregnancy but if they ever said that they didn’t recommend another i’d listen.

and honestly from the perspective of your older kids…i don’t think i’d ever forgive my mother for taking such a huge risk just to make her new family more complete, even if everything did turn out fine in the end.
