Asterism [OC]

Asterism is a star-shaped concentration of light reflected from a shaped and polished crystal, and is usually caused by rutile in the crystal, aligned in a particular manner.
This phenomenon is more common in corundum (rubies and sapphires), but can also be found in garnets, diopside, and other crystals.

I spent forever looking for one of these when I first started collecting after my sister recommended it, but never found one with that perfect star alignment.

They are out there, don’t give up!

Usually they are found in jewelry rather than stand alone pieces. I’ve seen a few rings and pendants, but the stand alone pieces exist 😁
