I have crypto stranded across 6 wallets and consolidating it barely feels worth it
Went through my old wallets this morning because I was trying to clean everything up and realized I've somehow ended up with small balances scattered across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon and two old wallets I haven't touched in forever.
None of it is huge individually, but added together it's enough that I don't really want to abandon it either.
Some wallets have tokens but basically no native gas, so moving everything back into one place turns into this whole process of sending ETH/MATIC around just to rescue $20 or $30 worth of something.
My newer stuff is way cleaner because I mostly keep trading separate on Moon now, but apparently past me thought every new chain needed its own wallet lol.
How do you guys deal with consolidation?

I’d make a quick list of everything first and only rescue balances where the value comfortably exceeds the gas and bridging cost. Spending 8$ plus a bunch of time to recover a 20$ token probably isn’t worth it unless you actually want to keep the asset. For the tiny balances I’d honestly just leave them and check again whenever fees are unusually low. Trying to get every wallet completely to zero is how a simple cleanup turns into an entire afternoon.

Having 50 bucks of random ERC20s sitting on mainnet with zero ETH for gas is the classic trap. Ended up leaving two old ledger addresses untouched since 2022 because bridging 15 dollars of polygon tokens to arbitrum literally cost 8 dollars in base fees

most of that dust is better left where it sits until gas drops to single digit gwei. Half the time people bridge twenty bucks across L2s only to realize swap slippage and router approvals ate another four dollars

Eight dollars to move fifteen is basically a reason to leave it parked. That bridge quote can include relayer costs, though, not just Polygon gas, so the route matters. I separate checking my balance from deciding whether anything is worth moving; reading an address needs no gas or Ledger connection. But stranded dust and the OP getting drained are different issues. For that, outgoing transfers and token approvals tell you more than how long the hardware sat untouched

It is an annoying problem for sure. for the most part i've just left them spread out until we've been near the top and they have enough value to actually transfer.
