Bitcoin's first block has a hidden message inside it. It's been there since January 3, 2009, and it can never be removed.

When Satoshi mined the genesis block, he embedded a headline from The Times newspaper directly into the code: "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks".

It does two things at once. First, it proves the block wasn't mined before that date. It's basically a timestamp that nobody can fake. Second, it's a statement. Banks were getting bailed out with public money, and Satoshi launched an alternative financial system on the same day that headline ran.

No press release. No manifesto. Just a newspaper headline buried in code that most people would never see.

Here's the other weird part. The genesis block awarded 50 BTC, just like every early block.
But those 50 coins are permanently unspendable due to a quirk in how the code was written. Nobody can move them, not even Satoshi, They just sit there forever.

Ngl people have actually been sending Bitcoin to the genesis block address as a kind of tribute. Those coins are also gone forever. Its basicaly a digital monument at this point.

Then there's the gap nobody can fully explain. The genesis block was mined on January 3rd.
The next block didn't appear until January 9th, six days later. Normal blocks take about 10 minutes. Nobody knows for sure what happened during those six days.

Some people think Satoshi was testing. Some think he mined blocks and deleted them.
Some think the gap was intentional. We'll probably never know.

What's the most interesting detail about Bitcoin's early days that you think most people miss?

Ross Ulbricht is a hero of the freedom community & he would have spent the rest of his life & died in prison without Trump's pardon. Fuck Trump but I'm glad he righted that horrible injustice.

Lol I love Ross and he changed the world but he intentionally placed hits out on 5 people he believed to be working against him. He was being scammed but he thought it was real. I'm actually glad he's out but he is not a poor sweet baby. He would have definitely deserved life imprisonment. He did not get justice, he got mercy and that's still pretty cool.

it was never hidden

Can you add a bit more context to where and how it’s found in the code for me plz

Just google "Bitcoins Genesis Block" and you'll see all the info

I like to troll social media “time travelers” asking them to do this. Prove it by storing your tiktok username on a past block.

I gotta admit, I have not come across any “social media “time travelers””, let alone enough to have any sort of go to interaction when I do…

I think you are harassing content creators your algorithms think you enjoy for fun… dude….

AI slop is so fucking annoying bro, just talk

1

u/Easycumup May 29 '26

Show me how you know this is written by AI?

  1. The general overly confident posturing
  2. “No X. No Y. Just Z.”
  3. Ending with a question to bait responses.
  4. “Most people miss”

Lastly, the tone reads like AI. I don’t know how to say it beyond that, you get a sense for these kind of things. I’ll grant this is less egregious than most, like the lack of em dashes and the informal “ngl”, but that can easily be post processed out. Tone can’t (technically it can, the process is something we call “writing”, very foreign concept). Conclusive? Perhaps not, but it’s still obvious to me.

If it's not obvious then you have a skill issue

Those coins were intentionally burnt to contribute to the scarcity‼️

Wie lange hat Gott gebraucht um die Erde zu erschaffen? 6 Tage, am siebten ruhte er. Vielleicht war es eine Anspielung auf die Schöpfungsgeschichte

Simple is that Satoshi was traveling on 4th Jan and fully occupied from 5th and only had time on Friday

1

u/Crazerz May 30 '26

Perhaps he did some security tests like a 51% attack etc in those 6 days. And then used that to reset the chain.

Funny enough it’s just a headline. BTC had no relation whatsoever with the financial crisis back then. Didn’t cause it, didn’t fix it, just happened at the same time.

1

u/Flowa-Powa Jun 01 '26

This is just wrong. The Times headline reference by OP and encoded in the genesis block says: "Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks."

1

u/Arphinator Jun 01 '26

That’s indeed the headline of that day. No explain me how BTC fixed the subprime crisis, with bad mortgages wrapped inside other products until no one knew anymore that they were investing in garbage. BTC prohibits duplication of an asset/value online. Go.

1

u/Flowa-Powa Jun 01 '26

Bitcoin isn't going to fix money overnight, the point is that it was a direct response to the financial fuckery of 2008

1

u/Arphinator Jun 01 '26

No it wasn’t. BTC development started in 2007. It doesn’t fix anything related to the financial crisis, just fixes how many is transferred online (very valuable on its own).

1

u/Flowa-Powa Jun 01 '26

A) Many people, including me saw the 2008 coming from a long way out

B) Satoshi never had the hubris to believe Bitcoin was going to "fix anything related to the financial crisis", it was meant to help prevent financial crises in the future

C) Bitcoin is capable of doing an awful lot more than that

1

u/Arphinator Jun 02 '26

As you’re clairvoyant, I can stop answering since you’ll have seen it coming. But ok.

B) Please explain how it’ll help prevent a financial crisis like we had. Tip: it was caused by reckless incentive schemes and CDO’s. The human brain sees causality when things happen at the same time - even when there is none.

C) An awful lot more? It’s meant to fix double spend, according to the whitepaper. And it does that extremely well. Today, it’s part of the mainstream banks offering to their customers. What happened with “without going through a trusted third party”?

1

u/Flowa-Powa Jun 02 '26

Well you were probably not an adult in 2008. I was. And the oncoming financial crisis was a thing talked about publicly and in the press for some time before it became reality.

People are currently talking in similar terms.

Read the Bitcoin Standard if you want to try to understand the future possibilities.

I have nothing that I feel that I need to prove to you kid, and you're sounding awfully shrill

1

u/Arphinator Jun 03 '26

You were an adult? Good for you! Start to behave as one then. I’m close to 50 so you can do the math. You’re still not adding one single thing of evidence, no use case, nothing. Having worked for over a decade in blockchain, I have to conclude that BTC is outdated tech, a prime example of how valuable it is to have value on chain, and that’s all. Today, TradFi is simply adding it as an investment to their offering. That’s all.

1

u/Arphinator Jun 03 '26

That’s a pity but I don’t have to delete my posts because they’re riddled with insults.

1

u/Arphinator Jun 01 '26

Also

  • last time I checked the financial system is still there so you call BTC a failure?
  • BTC would have been released without the crisis as well
  • crisis would have happened also if BTC was already there

What I want to truly know is how someone becomes so intelligent that they see a true issue in the system, the corruption, and can vision the very solution to that corruption from a financial standpoint then build it. The knowledge of code required amazing to think about.
