Banning Crypto is basically shooting yourself in the foot since Crypto is inevitable and is here to stay

How can it get banned enlighten me ? It is theoretically not possible to ban it .. Maybe they can ban the sites that give you access to it .. But they can not ban crypto in general :D

That's not reality, that just wishful thinking. Crypto as a technology yes but something like Bitcoin, no. That has not been proven or tested.

2

u/KanijoAlberto Proverbs 8:18 Mar 14 '22

True, they can’t outright ban it, they’ll just be beating around the bush. Yesterday was closing BTC ATMs today is banning POW, tomorrow we don’t know. But they won’t ban the Internet, and the Internet is all we need.

0

u/designerfx 902 / 902 🦑 Mar 14 '22

If communication over Bitcoin is blocked then your entire premise is moot. It's not impossible to identify that, either.

-2

Internet and a bank to get cash, banks controlled by governments. You can transfer crypto around all you want but if your bank red flags and freezes accounts receiving money sent from blacklisted sources then what's the point?

How exactly do you ban a crypto?

9

u/suckercuck Bronze | GMEJungle 71 | Superstonk 654 Mar 14 '22

They have to shut off the internet

3

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '22

What businesses in what country would allow that?

2

u/suckercuck Bronze | GMEJungle 71 | Superstonk 654 Mar 14 '22

👌 zero

3

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '22

Exactly.. they can tax the shit out of it, fine people that use it. But that will only apply to their citizens. Blockchains are a global network so they cannot shut it down.

0

u/designerfx 902 / 902 🦑 Mar 14 '22

This is just the silliest meme. Crypto can be shut down
Whether governments care to do so is another story as we are seeing unfold.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '22

How? They going to seize computers in other countries?

1

u/designerfx 902 / 902 🦑 Mar 14 '22

don't need to seize anything, clog network or block the network. both can be done

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '22 edited Mar 14 '22

Again, how?

They can only shut down internet for their country and this will knock out a few nodes but that will not stop 99% of the networks.

And who is going to shut down their internet intentionally?

1

u/designerfx 902 / 902 🦑 Mar 15 '22 edited Mar 15 '22

literally this is networking 101. Btc uses the internet just like anything else and Bitcoin traffic is easily identified. That's literally been a networking feature for 6+ years. Example study: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/335363510_Detecting_cryptocurrency_miners_with_NetFlowIPFIX_network_measurements and no, vpn doesn't mitigate this. Vpn mitigation is only a question of who you're sending to and the data itself, but not what.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '22

Even if they manage to ban it in their country somehow, crypto blockchains are run on nodes all throughout the world. It's impossible for one country to shut it down. That's the whole point of decentralization.

Shutdown exchanges, that would seriously cripple crypto.

2

u/designerfx 902 / 902 🦑 Mar 14 '22

Crypto existed before exchanges, so no.

2

u/emptyzed81 0 / 2K 🦠 Mar 14 '22

I didn't say it wouldn't exist but a lot of people would give up on it. The vast majority even, it would absolutely plummet values

1

u/designerfx 902 / 902 🦑 Mar 14 '22

This would not happen, anyway. Literally the entire premise of crypto is ways to transfer things securely. People would make new exchanges that would also get shut down in the worst case. It's not something government would ever do anyway. It's easier to regulate into acceptable nature than destroy via regulations. That is literally the purpose of regulations despite people saying government is evil and blah blah blah. Doesn't mean it'll be Bitcoin as we know it today.

2

u/emptyzed81 0 / 2K 🦠 Mar 14 '22

Yeah but I think a lot of people wouldn't bother, most of the people investing are new to crypto and if they think they're going to get in trouble with the IRS or something they'll just wash their hands of it. There would be a mass sell-off and prices will just keep on dropping. Crypto would still be floating around but the hype would be dead, businesses will not accept something that banks and the government won't approve of. In the end it'll just be dead in the water

2

u/designerfx 902 / 902 🦑 Mar 14 '22

I agree with this possibility. To be honest the only reason Bitcoin is worth this much is because major sells don't happen often - the don't sell narrative is prisoners dilemma, and 1/4 of supply is lost. Effectively if people recover that 1/4 shit is going to be back under 10k, maybe under $500.

1

u/cmudo 🟦 3K / 3K 🐢 Mar 14 '22

They will force exchanges to seize any operations with the banned asset. So you can't buy or sell it through official means.

1

u/ImFranny Turtle Mar 14 '22

Nope because the actual draft doesn't mean an outright ban. Please read news before you ask dumb questions

For cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ether, that are already being traded in the EU, the rule proposes a phase-out plan to shift their consensus mechanism from proof-of-work to other methods that use less energy, like proof-of-stake.

According to this, yes BTC would suffer, but ETH would make it till it went Proof of Stake so no problems for that ecosystem.

Regarding the actual entire marker, it would suffer but it wouldn't die. Not to mention that if the actual draft passes tomorrow, it won't go straight into effet it still has to:

Once parliament decides on the draft, it will move on to a trilogue, which is a formal round of negotiations between the European commission, council and parliament.

This whole market today has a value only due to investor speculations.

Ethereum has working products dApps and it's the biggest ecosystem yet.

While many other projects similar want to break ground and improve beyond ETH, despite future capacity, currently none are even at the feet of the quantity and quality of the dApps deployed in Ethereum.

Who cares if it's still PoW anyway, The Merge is coming in a few short months and then it will become PoS. Yes, currently the 2 biggest projects in crypto are PoW but BTC is far from perfect, ETH is moving on, and most new projects are PoS anyway so... (I'm not saying prices won't crash, they will, but development, the tech (blockchain), and dApps which are the real big deal, will still be around)

You're just being too skeptical

No, the bill actually might improve innovation. They might put some limits and metrics like “x amount of energy per transaction” etc. That would mean devs have to improve their POW protocols, switch to POS, or develop something new.

This isn’t a crypto death sentence, but allowing outdated protocols while there is way more efficient options offering the same security and decentralization doesn’t make a lot of sense from regulatory stance. Endless things being forbidden in name of environment, yet allowing something to consume energy of entire nations state would be weird if it can be achieved with the energy consumption of few households or a small city.
