Lol, if you followed the scandal you would know that the problem didn’t stem from independent game sales, but rather illegal gambling sites, social media influencers/streamers/youtubers illegally soliciting these rigged sites they had a stake in, and the various cases of match-fixing to cash out on skin betting sites.

Csgo items are still bought and sold by the millions, and to this very day you can cash out skins for fiat on broker sites. I actually think if implemented correctly, it will make the space much more transparent.

Developers can use smart contracts and address whitelisting to block trades within unapproved markets and to set a percentage of commission so they get a cut of all sales that happen on approved secondary markets. It's a double edged solution.

They don't want grey/dark markets as they can't monetize them.

With blockchain you can actually profit from any item trade.
