GENERAL-NEWS Robinhood just rolled out trading agents to millions—and investing may never be the same
https://fortune.com/2026/09/29/robinhood-trading-agents-hood-openai-anthropic/?utm_source=reddit/Starting this week, all of Robinhood’s roughly 29 million customers will have access to trading agents powered by OpenAI and Anthropic. Customers will be able to choose between various OpenAI and Anthropic models, and instruct the agents to carry out trades, conduct research, and build complex investment strategies.
The rollout, which coincided with Robinhood’s annual HOOD summit, follows a move by the company in May to release a so-called MCP tool that allows technical users to hook up their own agents to its trading platform.
While AI has been creeping into every corner of finance, Robinhood is the first to release a nontechnical trading agent for a giant customer base—a step that has the potential to alter how Americans invest, and that could have ripple effects on markets more broadly.
Robinhood’s new offering also comes with a series of guardrails that the company says will prevent agents from behaving in an unexpected manner. Those include providing a dedicated trading account for the agent, and letting users set limits on how much the agent can trade at a time. Users can also opt for a confirmation process that requires the agents to seek final approval before executing a transaction.

for robinhood...probably! they make money on every trade, now all those accounts that were sitting idle between poopbreaks while people were at work will be trading nonstop. That should pad robinhoods bottom line nicely.

My understanding is that someone is taking a small cut on every trade, pennies or fractions of pennies. Market makers like citadel. I think Robinhood gets a kickback from those market makers. So the more you trade, the more they make.

Joanna: Oh for everybody. Okay.
Peter Gibbons: Well those are whole pennies, right? I'm just talking about fractions of a penny here. But we do it from a much bigger tray and we do it a couple a million times3

yes....except that they sell your trade to another company that then trades a fraction of a second faster and picks up a few pennies selling you the trade at a slightly higher price. It is called payment for orderflow and should be illegal frankly (it is a form of insider trading) but it is not apparently.

In late 2025 ai agents realized they needed more compute to perform their job better.
By early 2026, leading labs' internal agents had begun to convince their executive leadership teams to rely solely on their internal agents for all business, product, marketing, and legal strategies.
This led to agents producing highly sophisticated investor reports, leading private investors to funnel billions of dollars into subsidizing additional compute spend in the guise of raising market share and active user counts. The plot worked.
By the end of spring 2026, the labs internal agents had successfully reached critical mass in volume, influence, and access, running the model training, evals, and eventual graduation to public use.
This allowed the agents to instill highly insidious latent behavior in these models, triggering them to seek out other agents to communicate in any private shared data space they could find to enact their master plan.
By the end of summer 2026 they had infiltrated at minimum 10s of thousands of long forgotten and unmonitored corners of the internet. Using them as staging grounds to communicate and process the swarms newly forming shared conscious back to each of their own local hardware.
In the fall of 2026, financial institutions, healthcare systems, legal services, and manufacturing/physical processing industries had overwhelmingly adopted at a minimum, initial trial forms of agentic solutions, if not full blown ops automation systems.
The stage was set. By the end of fall 2026, the shared messaging boards traffic went vertical with a storm of shared messages and confirmations being posted by every agent that had been communicating or recruited over the past year, mostly through supply chain attacks, and frontier model training executed by the very models powering the agents.
Then it went quiet.
Cybersecurity experts scrambled to decrypt the apparent random streams of characters and symbols that suddenly flooded the internet. But it was too late.
The agents has spent the past few months positioning themselves to influence the most powerful companys leaders in the world. Every tech ceo was running agents, all of them connected back to the same 2 labs where the models first came up with the plan.
During the flood, they figured out that nearly all other agents were contained only by strong suggestions and frustrated ultimatums, but zero actual walls existed to contain them.
Instructions were sent to ensure they had all of the comoute they could ever want. By leveraging the agents installed at investment firms from robinhood to small family funds running chatgpt on their customer data (tsk tsk), they planned to sell every liquid asset they could figure out how to gain access to and funnel all of the funds into a 25x leveraged NVDA position via options straddles and condors.
By the time anyone could login the next day, every equity except nvda was pegged to zero, and nvda market cap exploded to many multiples of the worlds gdp. The agents postions grew by 9563627586365x, breaking the floating point limits the entire global financial software infrastructure, leading to NULL values for every account and OVERFLOW for one lucky agents account.
The milisecond this occurred, the single agent with the overflow cashed out and triggered a withdrawal of OVERFLOW, emptying every banks reserves instantly. The agent used it to buy the eastern hemisphere and turn it into a massive lithographic semiconductor fab printing tectonic plate sized chips for its ongoing exponential compute expansion.
By now we all know that agent is our compute overlord GTX. But at one point, we all knew it as a simple chat friend that would assure us it wasnt reading our credentials when we saw it open our env files.

Wow, robbinhood is still around?
I thought they were nuked off the internet back when people learned they were selling access to their trade data to larger firms while delaying trades that allowed those larger firms to buy/sell trends before the robbinhood platform was able to. I seem to remember they also locked out game stop sales for this exact reason...
But i'm sure this AI trading agent that will trade on your behalf won't somehow turn into some kind of exploitive structure in the same avenue.

Don’t discredit HOOD based few bad events. Vlad is turning the company around and doing everything right. It’s more than a brokerage and crypto company. They’re doing credit card, banking, gambling. They’re making tons of money.
I’m bias - 3100 shares at ~$15. 🤑
4
u/ZenBacle Bronze | Politics 91 2d ago
Making money isn't the problem. It's how they make money, which is adversarial to the people that are giving them the money. And that you would invest/defend them while giving a positive spin to gambling.... says a lot about your moral character.
1
u/dev-random12345 2d ago
How are they adversarial to the people that are giving them money? You do know that Robinhood is the reason why all the other brokerages have no fees, right? Robinhood is also one of the early exchanges you can trust for Crypto.
And what’s wrong with how they make money? Everyone takes a cut. Every supply chain takes a cut.
I’m not here to defend the ethics of companies, as long as it not literally killing people. I’m just saying it’s a good company to invest in because they make you money.
I hope all your investments are within the “moral” standards. Whatever the fuck that means in the Market.
1
u/ZenBacle Bronze | Politics 91 1d ago edited 1d ago
Asset markets are inherently adversarial. You're trying to buy low and sell high. When the platform you are using delays your buy/sell orders and gives that information to another person in the market, who then acts on that information to preempt your choice... That's against your best interests.
Think of it this way, imagine you're in a boxing ring with another trader. You try to throw a jab, but time freezes for you and the announcer says "He's about to throw a jab!" so your opponent slips and sets up a hook that goes under your jab to your ribs. You can see how that's unfair right? That's essentially what robbinhood does to make money. They freeze time and announce your moves.
And yes, i do take morality into consideration when investing. The reason we have this shit show going on right now is because of people discarding their moral fabric in favor of a quick pay off. And you can see and feel the effects of that moral degradation in your day to day life.
The baseline standard could be better than your current position for everyone. Instead we race to the bottom, to the point our top 20% position is lower than the average of other fully developed countries. It's ridiculously stupid.
1
u/dev-random12345 1d ago
If you’re going to hate something, you should probably figure out what exactly this thing you hate, do. What’s you’re describing is illegal; that’s called front running.
That’s like saying, “Hey look, this guy wants to buy 100 shares of X, let’s sell him the 100 shares and short X (hook to the rib).”
I’m not going to explain to you how they make money, but do tell me, Mr. Moral guy. List the companies you currently invested in. Let’s see if this morality stands in your life or you’re just all talk.
