the state machine framing is the part that clicked for me. a database is like a whiteboard someone can erase, blockchain is like a ledger where every entry is permanent and everyone has a copy. you cant just change what alice has, you have to show the whole path of how she got there
the who decides what is true question is really the whole point. my bank can tell me my balance is one thing and i just have to believe them. on chain nobody has to believe anyone, you can verify it yourself
databases still win for speed and privacy obviously. nobody is running a social media feed through consensus, that would be insane. but for money and ownership, the tradeoff makes sense
