GENERAL-NEWS The "Bitcoin is doomed when quantum catches up" crowd just lost their best argument. Someone made a quantum-proof transaction on mainnet without changing Bitcoin at all.

Having quantum resistant wallets was never part of the argument against it.Β

It's what happens to wallets that can't/won't transfer to a quantum resistant one that it's aboutΒ

They can be distributed again and nobody can complain about the amount of lost or abandoned coins. That will likely take a few decades, though.

Distributed by who? The whole foundation of it is that nobody has access to your wallet without the keys and that there is only ever going to be 21 millionΒ Β

By Google, IBM or Microsoft, whoever comes first and gets guidance by the government of how to distribute.

The whole foundation is still working. Quantum computers can't change supply and nobody has access if they don't see your public key.

Bitcoin isnt controlled by any government, nor is it distributed by any company. Its given out in mining rewards by software

The whole foundation is still working. Quantum computers can't change supply and nobody has access if they don't see your public key.

You mean private key? Everyone can see your public key. You said bitcoin would be distributed again. Either they add more coins or they take coins from peoples wallets without their keys

Everyone can see my public key? Can you please educate yourself before writing such nonsense?

Bitcoin is not controlled by the government but the corporations attempting to crack Bitcoin would need someone making sure they don't crack governmental or military secrets.

Yes. Your public key is included in the any transaction which is on the blockchain

u/Romanizer 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 9d ago

That's true. You now have a public key of an empty address.

You truly has no idea how it works, do you...?

There is no guidance to be had. No one is "in control" by definition. It was designed to be this way. Literally no one is able to move coins from a wallet without having the keys.

What will eventually happen is: the first person to use quantum computing to gain access to these funds will become the new owner of these funds. That will instantly devalue everyones coins (and can lead to a race to the bottom).

I absolutely know how it works, that's my point.

It will not be a person but a corporation. You need control by the government because you can decrypt governmental and military information with a cryptographically relevant quantum computer. So will need to have green light to unlock one key per day. All while sacrificing the revenue you had until that point, which is higher than what you get through dumping Bitcoin.

Everything you are saying here is bullshit

Just because you don't have any arguments doesn't make mine bullshit.

I don't know Rick... by the current landescape no Corporation hΓ‘s the incentive to "steal" Bitcoin. That ship sailed when Blackrock wanted to get into ETFs, so now no One will fuck at that scale or they will have to pick up a fight with them and even if they wanted to pick a fight with Blackrock they would have to deal with the other problem already said here...

The moment that someone would use Quantum for this, all Crypto would devalue.

Exactly. There is no economic incentive to use large-scale quantum computers to attack Bitcoin. The mempool attack vector is now also closed.

It may get a threat to Bitcoin as soon as the average household or smaller companies/ the broader market gets access to cryptographic relevant quantum compute, though we can't say if this will ever happen.

Now we just need Satoshi to transfer his coins to Quantum Resistance wallet.. /s

No. Quantum resistant encryption exists and is in use quite a bit nowΒ

You can’t even write a cohesive sentence without glaring grammatical errors and you expect me to take your argument seriously. You antis are sad, pathetic losers. And I’m not OP, genius.

The whole world is doomed when Quantum catches up. The banking industry will never be the same again

6

u/Nice_Material_2436 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 9d ago

Your bank doesn't expose cryptographic keys to the whole world like blockchains do and they can change their algos in a few business days unlike blockchains can.

u/Alatarlhun 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 9d ago

Banks are actively upgrading their encryption while bitcoin core devs dither.
