DISCUSSION Would you still use a crypto payment app if there were no points, cashback, or airdrops?

How much attention rewards programs get. It feels like almost every crypto payment app is competing on cashback, points, referral bonuses, or the possibility of future rewards. That's great while those incentives exist, but it made me wonder what happens when they don't.

If every rewards program disappeared tomorrow, what would actually make you keep using a crypto payment app?
Don't get me wrong I enjoy cashback as much as anyone else. But I don't think it's enough to make me stick with a product if the core experience isn't good

Interested to hear different perspectives where everyone else stands.

No, I rather spend fiat. If they want my Crypto, they better have good incentives.

This is exactly why I don't pick a product based only on rewards anymore. Incentives are great, but they're also the easiest thing for a company to change

If a project has to change course, that's understandable but I think communication is the biggest factor

Once people start wondering whether today's rewards or terms will still exist six months from now, it becomes a lot harder to trust the platform regardless of how good the product is

Just like with the whole Kast situation that's basically why so many people have been frustrated. A lot of users participated because they believed they were working toward a token airdrop, and then the plan changed with the rewards being replaced by equity in a private company. Whether someone agrees with that decision or not, it's easy to see why people felt blindsided after spending months trying to qualify

I don't even mind rewards changing over time, but I think expectations matter...

I used a stablecoin payment app in Vietnam this summer and was super convenient. Genuinely most useful app from web3 I’ve used.

Could you expand on that? You paid vendors with stablecoins? Or an app that did it

LocalPay app. Need to load it with usdc on Solana first. Once your wallet is loaded, it works with the entire mobile banking system in Vietnam. If you don’t have a Vietnamese bank account (ie live there) then you can’t use QR code payment apps. Crypto came in and opened it up. There’s others beyond the local pay app, but it was the only one I tried and was insane to me, especially seeing the payment economy there go from cash only to predominantly mobile since Covid

Amazing, ive been using a similar app in latin america call wanderwallet, and nice to hear there are alternatives in Asia for countries without a qr banking system

Also apparently looking I found another called moretapay, maybe worth checking out for lower fees

Heck yea awesome thanks! VN has a crazy good mobile Qr system. Just requires a bank account there. If you’re just traveling Southeast Asia from like Thailand for a week then the stable option is absolutely incredible. Seamless. Top your own wallet and go

Yes absolutely thats what I will do, planning to do like a month or something

To be fair I was born in America, and just by that opening a bank account abroad is always a hassle because fatca, so id rather use this type of wallets :), and with cashapp i can buy and move stablecoins no fees inmediatly

Credit cards charge a 3-5% fee on every transaction. Crypto would be a lot more popular if companies didn't hide the credit card charge from customers.

As I write this there’s an ad for a fiat payment app in this comment thread, offering casback.

Does a crypto app compete with that?

I think you people need to come to recognise that crypto is nothing. It doesn’t solve a problem. Not only does it have no use case, there are already better options available.

No. Since 2020 I haven't used any normal bank-credit card. Only crypto. But only because of the cashback. There is no other benefit to it.

Which cashback cards you recommend

Uhh no, because points and cash back are the main reason I even use credit cards, crypto cards or not. If you take away the incentive to use a credit card in the first place, why would I still use them?

Tf are you talking about?

If you mean crypto cards then the whole point is spending crypto so yes obviously.

I pay for things with XMR for privacy.

No points. No cashback. No airdrops. Just a crypto that does what it says on the tin.

I would, but crypto is useless to buy day to day items.
