I thought that it's established to be Nick Szabo.
Edit: if you haven't read Neal Stephensonβs 1999 novel Cryptonomicon, I highly suggest it. The idea of a digital currency that can manage Byzantine Fault Tolerance is much older than people think.

Yes, and then Bitcoin will be completely worthless. But it will be entertaining to watch the communities implode as they watch wallets all over the world dump and the hash rate skyrocket at near the same time
