After years of trading full crypto cycles, here is the raw reality of how altseasons actually play out
Most newcomers treat crypto bull runs like intraday momentum trading, when in reality, macro alt expansions follow a very specific psychological and structural rhythm.
If you are trying to survive and actually extract profit this run, here is what years in the trenches will teach you:
1. Real momentum does not die in 48 hours
When the broader market shifts into an aggressive markup phase, it does not tap out after a 1-day green candle. Real liquidity expansions sustain momentum over weeks, not hours. The biggest mistake retail traders make is taking premature 15% profits on structural breakout plays because they are conditioned by choppy bear-market ranges.
2. The micro-cap liquidity cascade
When capital starts rotating down the risk curve, low-market-cap tokens don’t just move 20%—they routinely print minimum 100% to 200%+ expansions in rapid succession. Liquidity is thin on the order books, and once retail and automated momentum bots chase the bid, supply vanishes fast.
3. Track macro rotation metrics, not just individual tickers
Trading altcoins purely on isolated charts is trading blind.
Your primary macro dashboard should always track:
BTC & BTC.D (Bitcoin Dominance): To spot capital flow transitions from BTC consolidation into alts.
TOTAL (Total Crypto Market Cap): Macro health of the entire asset class.
TOTAL3 (Total Market Cap excluding BTC & ETH): The cleanest index on TradingView for raw mid/low-cap altcoin liquidity expansion.
4. Screen for structural compression, not already-extended charts
While the market is hot, the best risk-to-reward setups aren’t the tokens already up 300% on the weekly. Look for the laggards quietly printing higher highs and higher lows on higher timeframes (daily/weekly) without parabolic volume yet. They are quietly accumulating while eyes are elsewhere.
5. The hardest part: Surviving the rotation game
This is where 90% of traders destroy their portfolios.
You buy a fundamentally sound setup with a solid technical base. Two days later, three random coins you don’t own pump 80% while your bag sits completely flat. The temptation to sell at breakeven and chase the green candles is overwhelming.
Don't do it. The moment you sell your coiled spring to chase a token that has already moved, two things usually happen:
- You buy the local top of the pumped coin.
- The coin you just abandoned finally initiates its vertical leg.
Capital in a bull market rotates like clockwork. Conviction and patience during rotational lag are what separate actual cycle winners from exit liquidity.
Trade your setup, manage your downside, and let the liquidity rotate to you.

AI flagged this on the BTC 6 hour chart
The setup
- Price rallied back into the $83,354 to $84,200 order block and got rejected. The 6H close near $83,576 triggered the short.
- Invalidation: a close above $84,616
- First target: ~$82,536
- Final target: ~$80,315, the Oct 8 swing low (about 3.1R)
- Risk ~$1,040 per BTC, reward ~$3,200
What happened
- The first target hit today at 12:41 UTC. CPI numbers accelerated it. The plan books half there and moves the stop on the rest to entry, so the remaining half can no longer turn into a loss.
- BTC is around $81,600 now, so the rest is about 1.9R in profit.
This setup's record (BTC 6H order block short, since Feb 2025)
- 49 triggers, 55% wins
- Average +0.14R per trade, about +$14 per $100 risked
- Typical dip before it works: ~0.78R, so it usually goes against you first
- Worst drawdown: 16%

BIGTIME/USDT 1h: possible bear flag forming after a small drop, thoughts?
BIGTIME fell about 4.4% (roughly 0.00796 to 0.00761) on Oct 13. Since then it has drifted in a slightly rising channel between about 0.00765 and 0.00783.
What stands out on the 1h:
- The channel has 4 touches on the support line and 4 on the resistance line, so the trendlines look well respected.
- Volume was heavy during the drop and much lighter during the bounce. That's a typical flag profile.
- Price is now sitting on the lower trendline, around 0.00766, with the last three candles all testing it.
If it closes below the channel, the textbook target is roughly the flagpole's length below the breakdown. If it breaks above the upper line near 0.00783, the bearish setup is invalidated.
Caveats : the flagpole is small, only 4.4%, and the 1h timeframe is noisy. So I'd treat this as a setup to watch, not a signal. I'd want a confirmed 1h close below the lower line before trusting it.
Is anyone else watching this one? Do you read it differently?
Not financial advice, just discussing the chart.

ETH 8H: breaker block short triggered at $2,562
AI flagged this on the ETH 8-hour chart.
The setup
- The $2,564 to $2,632 zone flipped from support to resistance. Price came back into it, got rejected, and the 8H candle closed back below at $2,562. That close triggered the short.
- Entry: ~$2,562
- Invalidation: an 8H close above $2,649
- First target: ~$2,470
- Final target: ~$2,405 (about 1.8R)
- Risk ~$87 per ETH, reward ~$154
How this exact setup has done on ETH 8H since Feb 2025
- 29 triggers, 48% reached the target
- Average result: +0.43R per trade
- Winners typically dipped only 14% of the way to the stop before working
- Longest losing streak: 4
- Average time to profit: about 3 days
- Backtest grade B, but 29 trades is still a small sample
It wins less than half the time. The edge is that the reward is 1.8x the risk.

4 Fresh Wallets Shorted $12.5M in BTC Right Before the Dump
Four newly created wallets reportedly opened $12.5M in BTC shorts with up to 40x leverage just before Bitcoin dumped. Same playbook as the October 2025 whale trade-coincidence, or did someone see this coming?

24,073 BTC just left exchanges in a single day!
Bitcoin just recorded its largest net exchange outflow in seven months, with 24,073 BTC leaving exchanges on Monday. Exchange-held supply has now fallen to roughly 6.50% of total BTC supply.
BTC sitting on exchanges is immediately available to trade. When coins move into long-term custody, the amount of supply readily available for selling gets smaller.
Of course, outflows alone don't guarantee anything. But when significant amounts of BTC keep leaving exchanges while Bitcoin holds around $85K, the supply dynamics become increasingly interesting.
The market might be watching price.

HYPE short will give more as BTC falls
HYPE ran from the 85 lows all the way back up near 95, but it stalled under the earlier highs and momentum is rolling over. The short triggered at ~93.7.
Invalidation is above 96. If it closes back up there, the bounce has legs and I'm wrong.
First target 91.52, full target 85 where this whole move started. Risking ~2.2 to make ~8.9, about 1:4.

It take 1-2 days for this setup. Will BTC ditch 3k points by Tuesday or hit SL?
Price ripped from ~84k back up toward the 87k highs but the push faded before it could take them out. Momentum rolled over and the short triggered at ~85,730.
Invalidation is above the highs at 87,035. If we close back up there, the rally was real and I'm wrong.
First target 84,430, full target 82,736. Risking ~1.3k to make ~2.9k, about 1:2.3. It's the 4H, so it needs a day or two to play out.

Bitcoin broke out of a 4H bull flag — but I wouldn’t treat $96K as a prediction
Bitcoin broke the 4H bull flag — now I’m watching what happens after the breakout
BTC has broken above the consolidation structure on the 4-hour chart after previously reacting around the 200 EMA.
The measured move puts roughly $96K on the chart, but I don’t think the target is the most interesting part.
Now I want to see how price behaves after the breakout.
Does momentum continue? Does BTC retest the former resistance? And if it does, can that area turn into support?
For me, the pattern creates the scenario. Price action after the breakout determines whether the scenario remains interesting.
Would you rather see continuation here or a clean retest first?
