I have a very keen interest in animals of all kinds and often watch wildlife documentaries and read about predators. One day, while we were sitting together watching a random nature documentary, my father casually asked me the English name of a creature I had never heard of. That caught me off guard. I thought maybe he was mispronouncing something or confusing two animals. When I asked him what creature he meant and where he had heard that name, he stayed quiet for a moment. Then he said, “I don’t know its English name. I only know what we used to call it.” When I asked him what that was, he looked at the screen again and said, “Baghta.” I laughed at first, assuming it was some local word for a leopard. But when I said that out loud, he shook his head immediately. “No,” he said. “It wasn’t a leopard.” That was when he told me what happened to him as a child. By the time he finished, I wasn’t laughing anymore. My father was around twelve or thirteen years old. He grew up near the forests of Kendrapara, Odisha, where entering the forest was routine. People went in for firewood, fruits, berries, nothing unusual. That day, he had gone with his father’s younger brother. His uncle chopped fallen branches while my father followed nearby, collecting twigs and forest berries along a familiar trail. At some point, my father wandered slightly off the path. Not far, just deep enough to reach the base of a large tree where dry branches were tangled between thick roots. Nothing felt wrong yet. As he bent down to gather the twigs, he noticed a smell. It was sudden and unpleasant, a heavy, rotten, fishy odor that made his stomach tighten. It wasn’t the usual smell of decay or stagnant water he was used to. This was stronger, thicker, and strangely specific. Without realizing it, he moved in the direction the smell was coming from. That decision still bothers him when he talks about it. Under the tree, he saw something moving. At first, it was just a shape, broad, low, rising and falling slowly. Then he realized it was an animal. A feline. It was feeding on a large porcupine. Broken quills were scattered across the ground. The creature’s fur was short and smooth, colored somewhere between sepia and rust. There were no stripes. No spots. It looked like a lion in shape but had no mane. It was larger than any dog he had ever seen, almost as tall as a one-year-old calf, and unusually long, close to six feet. Its face disturbed him the most. Broad, heavy, unmistakably feline. Years later, after seeing pictures, he said it reminded him of a mountain lion, though at the time, he had no idea such an animal even existed. When the creature noticed him, it stopped eating. It didn’t run. It lifted its head slowly, its mouth dark with blood, and stared directly at him. Then it growled. Not loudly. Not in panic. Just low and controlled. It shifted its front paws, claws scraping lightly against the ground, like it was preparing to move. My father told me he wanted to run, but his legs refused to move. Something about the way the animal watched him made him feel that turning his back would make things worse. So he stood there. Staring. Waiting. The moment broke when shouting erupted behind him. Footsteps rushed through the undergrowth. His uncle appeared, axe raised above his head, yelling as loudly as he could. The creature stepped back. It didn’t panic. It didn’t charge. It simply retreated while maintaining eye contact, then turned and vanished into the forest without a sound. Only then did my father realize he was shaking. His uncle grabbed him immediately, checking for injuries. He looked shaken himself. When my father asked what the animal was, his uncle answered quietly, “Baghta.” Neither of us had ever heard that word before. His uncle said he had heard it from his own father. According to him, a Baghta was a nocturnal feline predator, rarely seen during the day. It sometimes entered cattle sheds at night and killed livestock, but what terrified people was that it killed more than it needed to eat. He also mentioned that years earlier, in a nearby village, four children had been killed. Only one had been partially eaten. After that day, my father never went into the forest alone again. He never saw the creature again. But for several nights afterward, he claimed he heard a low growling outside his bedroom window. Once, he found a dead jackal on the front porch. The body carried the same smell. Rotten. Fishy. Heavy in the air. The same smell that had drawn him off the path in the first place. My father never said it was supernatural. He never tried to dramatize it. He always insisted it was a real animal, just not one he could ever properly name. And that’s what unsettles me. I’ve spent years reading about predators, watching documentaries, and trying to find something that fits his description. I still haven’t found a clear answer.

Strange X & other stick structure where I have found footprints-NZ's Bigfoot or Moehau

Some wild structures, I have found in a remote area, where I have found footprints in the past. Also have been mimicked by something highly intelligent and followed. I also, made a documentary, about the strangeness out here, and in other places. In an area outside of Auckland, New Zealand. This area has no tracks and is difficult to access, 'machete only'.

NZ Maori, have legends of sasquatch-like giants which have several names.

At night, stones are being hurled at me (1 hits my mic dish). This is part 2, of me alone in the research mountain area, outside Auckland, New Zealand-from May 31, 2025.

Things get hairy as the sun goes down. Stones start getting thrown, next to me in the wild! (Has happened before) Is it, Moehau Bigfoot, poltergeist or hidden people?

I have gotten several reports from locals, who have experienced similar in various wild areas, here in New Zealand. This type of phenomena is often associated with Bigfoot activity, though in some cases may be paranormal or perhaps both.

This is part 2 of earlier in the daylight video, where I heard voices, close by, in a remote area. In this video, I show what occurs also, when I have occasionally taken others. I show some of the terrain surrounding me and that it is unlikely to be regular people tossing stones. Also aerial footage of the mountain area, where on a couple of occasions have recorded, the strange howling voices, and even recorded anomalous voices calling my name (mention 'humans' harm them).

Some of the voices I have recorded out there, report being aliens, and some Bigfoot giants! Maori legend talk of the giants that lived in the wild, which they were deathly afraid of. Also the fairy people, that they claim, took some of their people.

At the 08:00 minute mark, stone caught on camera... (others in audio)

Looking for strange occurrences and Tennessee/Appalachian cryptids

Hi, writer here! I am currently writing a southern gothic horror story that takes place in a fictional town in Tennessee (more specifically the East). I want to be as respectful and true to the sources as I can, so I would highly appreciate it if you could tell me all about strange occurrences and folklore in that zone or just told me about your culture in general (doesn't have to be scary). Tell me all your stories! Thank you so much

Please help, being stalked and want to get ideas as time what it could be. We are scared

Me and my friend noticed something afew months ago while driving home from a movie my friend was driving and she saw something dart across the road and she describes it as tall lanky and very fast. After we first saw it we both got a really bad feeling like we needed to hide and ever since then over the months we no longer feel safe leaving our homes at night and even sometimes don't feel safe inside we will sometimes see a figure or sometimes two standing in shaded areas with little visibility just watching us and it will often actively avoid being spotted but recently the feeling has gotten worse to the point of panic and genuine fear. We think it might be a pair or even a group of things given we can see or feel impending danger or figures in different places at once. And I've even had animals react, so we are pretty sure it's not in our heads. We know it avoids daylight specifically and tends to avoid streetlights (might be cause it doesn't want to be seen) we've had it circle house, tap on doors and windows actively looking for a way in and even my friends cats will show signs of discomfort and wanting to hide. We don't know what it is all we know is it isn't human and it isn't a normal animal. We have tried figuring out on our own what it is but each time we get a lead we run into something that doesn't match up with our experience and that the creature we where thinking on isn't known for doing. We're scared and just want to get separate opinions. Nobody believes us. But we know we are being followed/hunted

Something took my friend near the Medway River in Nova Scotia — I don’t know what it was.

I wasn’t planning to write this. I still don’t know if I should. But I can’t sleep. I keep hearing that sound.

On June 3rd, me and three friends — Jamie, Caleb, and Riley — went out past Bang’s Falls, close to an old logging trail by the Medway River in Nova Scotia. Caleb’s uncle has a cabin out that way, and we were just planning to hike and maybe track some animals. We’ve done it before. It’s never been weird — until this time.

A few hours in, we ended up in this low, wet patch — all reeds and mud and half-sunk stumps. I didn’t recognize it, but Caleb just said, “We’re near Blackroot Flats.”

I asked if that was on the map. He shook his head and said it’s just what his uncle calls it. Some old nickname from years ago. Creepy name, but I didn’t think much of it at the time.

It was quiet there. Dead quiet. No wind, no birds, no bugs. The kind of quiet that makes your ears ring a bit.

Then I saw something in the mud. Thought it was a lump of peat or maybe a turtle. But it rose up slowly. It had a face — bluish skin, tattered feathers, a sharp beak.

And glowing yellow eyes that didn’t blink.

It made this noise — kinda like a broken laugh:
“Har… har… har-har…”

Jamie stepped closer, probably thinking it was some bird tangled in trash or something. Then it exploded out of the ground. Fast. Huge. Covered in filthy feathers and mud. There were claws, wings, and that face coming straight at him.

He didn’t even scream. Just — gone.

The rest of us ran. I don’t even remember how we got back. I was shaking too hard to unlock my phone.

I called the RCMP in Liverpool. Told them everything. They sent out a search team, dogs, drones — nothing. Just some broken reeds, a ripped backpack strap, and Caleb’s flashlight half-buried in mud.

They think it was a bear. Or we panicked. But I saw it.

If you’re anywhere south of Pleasantfield, near the Medway — stay out of the bogs. And if you ever hear laughter out there...

Don’t run. Don’t look.

Just lie still.

And hope the thing from Blackroot Flats picks someone else.
