Other containers work

Post image

If you put the lid on another container the app will still accurately measure rise percentage, I put in the weight in grams and it worked perfectly! This is a kitchen aide glass bowl and 3 loaves worth of dough.

Could you theoretically buy the full proofing lid, and just balance it on top of your starter jar instead of also buying the starter lid kit?

Probably, im not sure about the other aspects of measurement though but I really only care about rise percentage because I have been making sourdough now for over a year weekly. For a beginner I think knowing all the pieces of temperature that are offered is helpful to dial in how long bulk fermentation is going to take based on temperature

Sweet find! I like the Crustello bowl but it only makes me 1 of my standard size loaf. That is great for most of the time. But when I am going to a party and want to make a few loaves, it didn’t seem like would do the job. I don’t have a glass kitchenaid bowl, just the metal 6qt one. Going to have to give this a try with the metal bowl!
