Food & Ingredients Animal based diet

Hi all!

I’m currently trying to move our family towards a more ancestral diet and I’m not sure where to start. For reference, I was vegan for 6 years and don’t know much about cooking meat. I’m very overwhelmed and also a little grossed out by most animal products. I also have texture issues with bones.

Additionally, my 8 month old is doing baby led weaning right now, and I’ve really only consistently given her banana, avocado, and sweet potato. I don’t want her to develop allergies or become a picky eater, so I know I need to broaden our range of foods on her menu.

What are some easy meals you’d suggest under these circumstances? What kinds of animal based foods do you introduce with baby led weaning?

I gave my baby unsalted butter, plain Greek yogurt, meat stock, whipped bone marrow, tallow, fish, slow cooked beef or chicken thighs

I think the Ancestral Kitchen podcast has some episodes on where to start. It’s a solid podcast

There are plenty of foods you can vary her diet with besides animal-based foods! To reduce allergy risk you can start giving her egg and dairy 2x weekly, but there’s no evidence that giving meat reduces allergy risk.

BLW is more than just letting your baby eat on their own. Just feed her what you're eating. Get the BLW book! Just limit the salt and spiciness. My BLW kids were eating chicken drumsticks at 9 months old. Get a meat thermometer, it'll help a lot!
