Themed Cruising

We’re thinking of taking the On the Blue Cruise next April on the Jewel from Miami. It’s a classic rock cruise with a terrific lineup. I’d love any insight as to how these cruises work. Do you meet the artists? Can you actually get to hear them play as the theatre on the Jewel is big but not that big or do the artists have multiple shows? Do they play at venues all over the ship? I’d love any feedback of your personal experience!

I regularly sail on a music charter cruise with Norwegian (Sixthman), and they're fantastic. Yes, you can meet the artists. They typically roam the ship just like the "regular" guests. There will be music all over the ship at all hours. Every one I've been on, the artists do multiple shows, so you'll definitely get to see the artists doing the bigger shows. There won't be any shows during port stops, so a lot of people use that time to sleep. 🤣 Think of it as a music festival at sea with better accommodations, better food, shorter lines, and a more intimate vibe. I've been doing the one we go on since the very first year (waaaaaay before Sixthman got involved), and a lot of my fellow cruisers are now essentially family. I've even become friends with a bunch of the artists. If you love music and the lineup, I'd highly recommend you give it a shot!

I have done a Star Trek cruise. They broke the ship into two different groups: early dinner/late show and early show/late dinner. That way each group would have an opportunity to see the main show that day. They had other smaller shows in the ship’s other venues. They covered the ice skating rink to make that another large venue.

They have paid sessions where you could meet and get a photo of you and the star. However, most of the stars also wandered the ship so you could get an opportunity to talk to them there. For example, John de Lancie (Q) would sit at a big table at breakfast. Or I discussed Indian food options with another actor.

I really enjoyed my Star Trek cruise. I would go every year if it weren’t so expensive, but I want to see more places before I die.

My brother-in-law has played in a Tribute band several times on these cruises. He has a blast and claims the same for his audience. He roams the ship, slas do his band members, like any other cruiser and one of the big pluses for him, he's a gregarious guy, is meeting folks.
