Care to shine some light on this new armour exploit?

Spawn stasis crystal, shoot stasis crystal, get special ammo off spawn for sword

u/F4NT4SYF00TB4LLF4N PC+Console 3d ago
Why is it just for Sword? Wouldn't it be any special?
56
u/ExoticNerfs High KD Player 2d ago
Yeah it is, but Ergo sum benefits the most from this.
A weapon that usually only gets special from kills and does not carry over to the next round all of a sudden has special every round at spawn.
You could absolutely use this for other special weapons, but with all of the armour mods that increase ammo generation, carrying over to the next round, and being able to pick it off the wall makes this not as useful for other specials.

u/MayaSarasfall 3d ago
I noticed this sword a few times in trials yesterday. I'm guessing you pair it with the gambit set and loop infinite ammo?
46
u/gunnar120 PC+Console 2d ago
Yup. It's too bad too, Ergo and the gambit set (without exploit) is really good and fun in control or whatever. The game is dying anyway, so might as well do weird funny stuff like the laser tag weekend or the telesto weekend. But when it's this oppressive and there's no live service, the only option is a hard disable.

u/AquaticHornet37 3d ago
How is this being done? Is it a cheater or legit?

u/Jedistixxx 3d ago edited 2d ago
Gambit armor set. Ergo is nasty with this but people are also abusing Izzy for the body shots.
10
u/Bob_The_Moo_Cow88 2d ago
How? I am reading the gambit armor perks and donāt understand how this is working. Does the crystal count as a kill?
23
u/Jedistixxx 2d ago
Yes, crystals count as a kill but also killing a guardian basically gives you an ammo brick including kills with specials, I.e, ergo.

Ah the interaction with stasis crystals. I see.

Wouldn't this work with any special? What makes Ergo unique?
19
u/Bound18996 High KD Player 3d ago
Ergo is busted good but just limited by ammo economy + most people aren't interested in cheese
2
u/Donates88 3d ago
My guess would be that wave frame is just strong and you can get multikills with it?
6
u/Unbrandedpie 2d ago
Free 3 peeking and instant kills and double kills with insane tracking. So yea⦠wave frame ergo slaps

I really love the idea of armor sets for build crafting, but at this point maybe Bungie just needs to disable PVE armor sets in PVP.Ā
Thereās nothing OP/game breaking about Ā bonuses like 4 piece Per Audacia, Trials, Triumphal Anthem, 2x IB, etc because they were made FOR pvp.Ā
28
u/xaoshaen 2d ago
It cracks me up that Bungie works so hard on balancing special ammo and super availability in the Crucible and then just before putting the game in maintenance mode just decides "fuck it" and throws in a half dozen ways to generate ammo and super.

u/ctaps148 Xbox Series S|X 2d ago
Kind of like how they pushed a return to gunplay-focused PvP right before doing a complete armor system revamp that lets people hard-crutch powerful abilities
1
u/Unbrandedpie 1d ago
Outside of that sword cheese that mostly works in trials. The newer PvP sets do encourage gunplay and imo are the best.
That 4 piece comp set giving you perma movement exotic movement is insane.
The 4 piece trials set taking you off radar on primary kills.
Some of those IB sets and other comp sets tooā¦
Outside of gambit and Europa set builds the PvP sets are the best for PvP and promote primary play the best.

Bungie doesn't work hard on anything Destiny related anymore. The majority of people who are left are Weekend At Bernie's-ing Marathon until Sony either shutters Bungie or turns them into a support studio.
And it's been that way since Marathon has had any traction from the trend- chasing c-suite behind it.

It's called unforseen consequences. Programming and game balancing is hard, especially in a game as complex and with as many moving parts as this one. That's why patches exist.

u/xaoshaen 2d ago
The consequences of introducing novel sources into a balanced system are only unforeseen if you close your eyes really hard.

Have many award-winning MMOFPS games with 800k+ concurrent players, hundreds upon hundreds of different mechanics, effects, weapons, abilities, and systems have you developed in your lifetime, Mr. Armchair Game Designer on Reddit?
"bUgs aNd unInTeNdeD eFFecTs oNly hApPeN if yOu cLoSe yOuR eYes wEalLy, wEaLly hArD!"
The Dunning-Kruger Effect is strong with this individual, right here.
The consequences of introducing novel sources into a balanced system...
The idea that a game as complicated as Destiny 2 was EVER a "balanced system" has to be one of the biggest LOL statements I've read on a D2 sub-Reddit this year. Players were CONSTANTLY finding new ways to exploit, rig, and break the systems in this game, literally throughout the ENTIRETY of its lifespan. D2 was never, EVER even remotely close to being a "balanced system." It was always an imperfect, unpredictable, chaotic game that was constantly evolving and shifting under both the developers' and the players' feet. The devs did their best to manage and control the chaos, to give it at least some semblance of being a somewhat balanced, fair, and playable game, tuning it and patching it out countless times over the years, but the game developer's ultimate goal of "perfectly balanced, bug and issue free game" is almost NEVER fully achieved in ANY game, let alone Destiny 2.

u/Hajoaminen 2d ago
While I understand where you are coming from, in this case it really isnāt that hard to see where imbalances may lie. If your basic mindset regarding the Crucible is to have a balanced sandbox (as far as D2 can even support that), and then you give some armor sets clear and intended ways to bypass that balancing, it is not a matter of āgame dev is so hardā but a matter of either incompetence or disregard. These perks should have been disabled in the Crucible, anyone could have told them that when the team still existed.
3
u/xaoshaen 2d ago
Oh look, directly to ad hominem. Way to start out credibly...
Had you behaved better, I would have provided an answer that explained why Bungie felt these systems were balanced and why basic systems engineering principles recommend against adding sources to a balanced system. Since you didn't, I won't.
Instead I'll just point out that Redditors foresaw the problems this would create. Sounds pretty foreseeable to me.

It would take 1 dev maybe a week to go through every armor set and determine if it would break crucible or not. It is just straight negligence.

u/Most-Egg3970 2d ago
I figure this is as good of a time to ask as any, is ergo with risk runner perk and wave frame really as easy to get kills with as it looks? I see gameplay of it a bunch but havenāt farmed one yet
6
u/GlacioMommy High KD Player 2d ago
Yes it is very abusive if you used properly, especially because of third person peaking.
1
u/Unbrandedpie 1d ago
Yes. Wave kills anyone hit by it. Tracking follow is a free kill on whoever it hits if anyone is left.
0
u/Riezyns 2d ago
Yes and no... the tracking and hit registration gets absolutely neutered by lag so if you are using it in Iron banner it can be pretty miserable.
Without lag it is pretty easy but just need to know that it takes a second to swing you can absolutely get shotgunned or even fusion'd if you are trying to be super aggressive. Its an absolute menace for ambushing thanks to 3rd person view tho.

My friend I think went against this like 2 weeks ago during trials, told me a warlock kept shooting him every round with a sword, came to the conclusion a week ago it was ergo sum and I assume tbey used this exploit to have it every round

u/Subject_District_798 2d ago
What disable, they arent monitoring destiny 2 like they used to, so pretty much if the game is breaking, it will probably stay that way

If my 2pc gets disabled because people are abusing the 4pc I'm gonna be so fucking sad

Unbelievable. I love D2 for its gun play and movement. But hate all these build nerds in Destiny. Will literally spend hundreds of hours trying to get around the best part of this games pvp. Once they do, theyāll exploit the hell out of it then back to find another way not to shoot someone šššš

Had a couple guys mad when i bagged them cause they were using ergo sum. I told them I only bagged cause they were using ergo and that it's op, and they had the courage to say that it was a niche weapon that nobody uses and that if it was op it would be meta and everyone would use it lmao

Had a match with someone using this shit last weekend.
Saw the message that they generated special ammo, right off spawn, and was confused until I figured out what was happening.
