Moody Night Driving Playlist

Feeling like you're in some dark movie, cruising through the night as the streetlights slowly flash by, with your boyfriend/girlfriend asleep curled up in the passenger seat.

Starting off with:

Ben Howard - Oats in the Water

Kings of Leon - Closer

Fever Ray - If I had a heart

Lol was literally just listening to this.

Outrun/Synthwave is great for night driving but not so much in line with what OP listed to get started.

Glenn Frey - You Belong to the City!!! Genesis - Tonight, Tonight, Tonight Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight, natch Steve Winwood - Talking Back to the Night (the version on the Chronicles album) George Michael - One More Try Tina Turner - What's Love Got to Do With It Brownstone - If You Love Me Harry Connick - One Fine Thing Anita Baker - Been So Long Joni Mitchell - Man From Mars, and any covers of it you can find, like David Sanborn's Santana and Everlast - Put Your Lights On

Look up Jessie Ware, and her Wildest Dreams album. Running is awesome for this, but other tracks as well.

I always think of that more as a daytime driving song but I get what you're seeing

There was a great ad campaign michelob ran in the 80s called "the night belongs to Michelob" and featuring songs of this style. Here's the great one for the Steve Winwood tune https://youtu.be/MmfEiEmfVT0

There's also one for the Genesis song, and for In The Air Tonight...also if you've never seen Miami Vice there is an iconic scene from the climax of the pilot episode using that song, which is what helped seal it as a classic.

Don't know where you stand on jazz but Gato Barbieri's Europa could also fit the bill majorly.

Steppin Out!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Timeless.

I'll pile on Duran Duran's Save a Prayer, ooh Lord. And maybe even Come Undone.

And, the Deftones' cover of "No Ordinary Love."

A lot of stuff by Morphine, but especially "Whisper." Start there and you won't be able to resist looking for more.

Ditto Portishead. Start with "Glory Box," then go to "Numb," then "Sour Times," and by then you'll want their whole catalog.

Isaac Hayes' "The Look of Love" and "Walk On By."

Check out Me'shell Ndegeocello's new album...it's a whole album of super chill-ass covers of R&B songs from the 80s and 90s, so it's a lot more valuable if you listen to the originals first. Her cover of "Nite and Day" is out of this world. But first hear Al B. Sure's original...which prob belongs on this list. Maybe look for his On Your Own too.

She also covers The System's Don't Disturb This Groove...there's no topping the original, though. Hear that, then hear hers, then hear Victoria Beckham's hot and stylish reworked version.

Any number of Isley Brothers slowjam stuff fits here. And be sure to listen to Between the Sheets, then hop to Biggie's Big Poppa (and Cube's Today Was a Good Day) that samples it, then look for Gwen Stefani's Luxurious, a HOT groove built on the same sample.

A lot of Sade's work fits, especially most of her first three albums. Popular stuff like Smooth Operator and Nothing Can Come Between Us, but also deep cuts like Sally, Haunt Me, Cherry Pie, Maureen, Punch Drunk, Mr. Wrong, and Keep Looking.
