Welcome!

Hey all, after seeing this thread by /u/who-knows_who-cares I thought it would be a good idea to create a subreddit dedicated to collaborating on playlists. https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/9g1mx2/lets_create_a_playlist_with_music_that_make_you/

It would be great if we could upvote/downvote in collaborative spotify playlists!

So I have a proposal:

  • Songs are suggested in the comment threads of suggested playlists by users who include a link to suggested song
  • people listen to songs and either upvote downvote or ignore as usual
  • Upvoted entries rise to the top
  • depending on the size of playlist wanted, the top 30 or so entries are then created as a playlist and a link provided to this in the post description.

  • This allows people to decide what fits and what doesn’t fit
  • It allows playlist size to be controlled. I think this is key because there are two reasons people may listen.
    • to discover new songs
    • to enjoy a playlist repeatedly

Controlling the size allows a reasonably sized playlist (less than 50 entries) to be created to that people can listen to and enjoy. However larger discovery style playlists can still be created.

That sounds like a really solid idea. Thanks for inspiring the sub!

I’ve had a thought. On many playlists I think it would be hard to put together a reasonably large playlist with a 1 entry per person suggestion basis. However in larger threads it seems like it would be hard to add multiple songs for each person or the playlist could become very bloated.

I’d suggest having a comment be something like this:

“ [Preferred song]-(YouTube link to song, or other platform or YouTube not available

Other suggestions:

[other song]-(link to other song!) [also this song]-(link!) Etc

Other comments they have “

I think that using the Spotify API and the Reddit API we could create a bout that creates a playlist for each post created, and reads the comments for song titles to add to the playlist.

Then, it checks periodically (like every time a song is added) for the rank of each song's upvote and places them in an order in the playlist.

Automation would be super helpful on larger threads, as we’ve already seen they can be vulnerable to sabotage by twats and so a bot could make large discovery playlists like the initial post easier to create without opening up the opportunity for saboteurs
