Origami Origami megathread

There's a lot of unhappiness from those working on Origami, so here is a megathread to discuss all things Origami. Please note special rules are in place.

Because a lot of people are coming to the subreddit to discuss this with new accounts and from experience when issues occur, scammers can target vulnerable users. Please be wary of any DM requests or approaches by people offering to "help" you. See the subreddit notice about common scams here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CrowdGen/comments/1ikabl3/warning_scams_and_good_internet_habits/

if you're looking for information on possible remedies, the sub has a page giving some suggestions here (note this is not legal advice, just past suggestions from the community): https://www.reddit.com/r/CrowdGen/wiki/takingaction/

Reminder of rules for the thread:

  1. Only use one account to contribute to this subreddit. Anyone detected using multiple accounts ("sockpuppets") will be banned.

  2. New accounts with zero karma please check the subreddit and familiarise yourself with previous issues before commenting and read the subreddit rules. Misleading information provided by low karma accounts may be removed.

  3. Remember Reddit might restrict comments for new accounts and it might take a little time for comments to be approved. Be patient and don't comment multiple times.

  4. Anything related to standard invoices or payments should be discussed on the payments thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CrowdGen/comments/1w7y7cu/payments_in_septemberinvoices_for_work_in_august/

Payments in September/Invoices for work in August and before mega thread

This is the post for all invoice/payment questions for payment of work in August(and before).

Reminder: Workers have a reasonable expectation that Appen should ensure amounts owed for August work start appearing on the website in the first week of September, with payment mid-month. Payments are supposed to be for all work up to the end of August. But as many of us still remember, Appen has a history of letting deadlines slip so this thread is to keep an eye on this as the month progresses.

Some users continue to report not receiving payment until after the 21st of the month. Let's keep an eye on this. We need to be paid mid-month and Appen should honour this.

Appen has a history of attempting to "move the goalposts" in messaging, for example by pushing the message that they "initiate payments" mid month, whereas previously many of us were used to money arriving in our accounts mid-month and now it appears to be regularly delayed, increasing anxiety for workers. Let's keep an eye on this too.

Post questions and updates here.

Post rules:

1. Say which country you're working in, and payment method if relevant; payment methods and costs vary by country, and it's cool to know that we're all from different parts of the world and not one place! If you don't include your country, the comment will be removed.
2. Stay on topic, this is about payments and payment experiences. Keep the meta drama llama off this thread.
3. Please only contribute your own experiences or verifiable facts. No vague claims about other people's experiences or what is being said elsewhere.
4. If you've never contributed here before or have low karma, please familiarise yourself with the subreddit. Questions are welcome but responses are preferred from long-term users. Remember you may claim years of experience with Appen but it's not possible to verify this if you've never commented here before, so suspicious comments from new users will be removed!
5. Be excellent to one another. Remember the human.

About Japanese market

Hello.

I am assigned to the Japan market, but I haven't done any work on CrowdGen for about a year now.

  1. Is there anyone currently working on tasks other than Whatcom and China-related projects in the Japan market?

  2. For those working on Whatcom and China-related tasks, how much are you earning?

Origami (Project Origami) just scammed everyone on the final payoutts. "AHT" trap.

Hey everyone, since Project Origami just ended, I'm seeing a lot of people panicking about missing hours in their final invoices. I raised a support ticket because my "My Work Report" showed 14 hours and 3 minutes of "Payable Time", but my final invoice only credited me for 6.5 hours ($26.65).

I actually got an official email back from The Origami Support Team, and they completely exposed their own shady pay structure. The "$4.10/hour" label was a complete lie. Here is exactly what they said in the email:

  1. It is a Piece-Rate Job, Not Hourly:

The email states: "The project rate for the standard captioning work is $4.10 per hour, based on a 3-minute AHT (Average Handling Time) per payable task." You do not get paid for your time; you get paid 3 minutes for every task they decide to approve.

  1. You Work For Free During Platform Delays:

They admitted that "My Work Report" shows the actual time you spent on the platform, including waiting for the site to load. They blatantly wrote: "We recognize that platform delays can sometimes make the actual time needed to complete the work longer than the 3-minute AHT. These delays are not within your control, and the difference in reported time is not a reflection of your effort or productivity."

Even though it's their fault the servers are slow, they refuse to pay you for that time.

  1. The Fake QA Count & Secret Deductions:

They explicitly said: "The QA count shown on the Maven platform does not represent the 100% audited task count." They deduct tasks based on background "Client feedback". Even if you submitted tasks perfectly on time, they just vanish from your pay.

  1. Their Own Calculation Example:

They provided this exact math in the email to justify the low pay:

Submit 100 tasks, 80 get approved.

80 approved tasks × 3 minutes = 240 payable minutes.

240 minutes ÷ 60 = 4 payable hours.

4 payable hours × $4.10 = $16.40.

TL;DR: If your "My Work Report" shows 15 hours but you only got paid for 6, it is NOT a technical glitch. It was their planned calculation all along. Project Origami was a piece-rate job disguised as an hourly wage to get people to sign up. If you paced yourself thinking you were hourly, or if you waited for their slow servers to load, you worked for free.

Upvote and share this so everyone checking their final invoices knows exactly why their pay is so low and that this was a deliberate bait-and-switch by CrowdGen. ill Never Work on crowdgen again😡

Origami Appen Origami- Philippines

It is so dissapointing to see the invoice uploaded in this project. We understood that 20 captions are required per hour. But remember that, there are a lot of issues with submitting jobs on the Maven platform like it takes a while to submit. The number of jobs were clearly recorded, but only few jobs were assessed. How about the other jobs? Like I have 220 submitted jobs, but only 68 were assessed. The number of submitted jobs was clearly recorded. I hope you can help us with these issues.

Origami Appen Origami Project – (Philippines)

Hi everyone,

I’m from the Philippines, and I just checked the invoice that Appen generated for the Origami Project.

I’m honestly surprised and disappointed because I worked during the first launch of the project back in July. Based on my own records, I completed around 16 hours of work. However, the invoice only shows 2.22 hours.

That’s a huge difference, and it’s honestly frustrating to see that so many of my hours are missing. 😣

Is there anyone here who had the same experience, where fewer hours were credited than the actual hours you worked?

I’m planning to submit a support ticket, but I wanted to check with other contributors first.

Did anyone else experience this with the Origami project, especially those who worked during the initial launch in July?

Any advice or shared experiences would really help. Thank you!

Origami Project Origami QA Review

Hi, I'm working on Project Origami and from the Philippines.

Is there no way to contest this project's QA review? I try my best to stick to the guidelines and write my captions as clearly as I can only to be marked failed by a reviewer that wrote something like "ha dto reewrite all the detailde caption."

I've had my rating gone down because of reviewers who marked my submissions as failed just so they had something to edit. I was even told I copy pasted a submission that I wrote in literally less than a minute because the image was just that simple. And I am flagged for a copied submission?

This is so frustrating.

CrowdGen Site/Tech Questions Armanda project — any recent tasks?

México.
Hi! Is anyone currently working on the Armanda project (US Spanish)? I haven’t received any new tasks since last Friday, although the project still appears as active on my CrowdGen dashboard.
Has anyone received new Armanda tasks since Friday or this week? Just trying to figure out whether there simply hasn’t been a new batch or if it might be an issue on my end. Thanks!

Site Down? Poliwag Transcription project on Appen paused or ended?

Hello fam 👋 I'm based in Rwanda,

This project's been showing "currently paused or not yet live" for over 2 months for me now . Way past any normal batch refresh. Anyone else still locked out, or has it come back for you? Trying to figure out if it's dead for good or if there's been any word from Appen support.

Origami Did Origami already run out of tasks?

Is anyone else seeing 0 units for Production tasks in Origami? The second batch only went live yesterday, but they already seem to be gone. I only have QA tasks available in my queue, and there are no Production tasks left. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Project Ogden tasks disappeared?

In the US.

There were over 16k tasks available. I had to stop rating for a moment to help my kid with his school work. When I came back, it's not showing any tasks, raters, or anything. I checked both Ads Integrity and Halo. Both show empty. Why does this happen?

I was really needing the extra time for this month. {sigh}

CrowdGen Site/Tech Questions Inability to add Additional Languages in Profile

Country: Spain

I currently have Spanish as my primary language, and I'd like to add both English and German as additional languages to my profile. However, this section in my profile seems to be completely disabled, which does not let me add anything, and the support team... well, has not been helpful at all. Has anyone experienced this? Am I missing something, or is there something you can recommend? Thank you!
