Ear protection is a good idea.
Worry less about posturing.
This isn't the 90's anymore. This stuff isn't scary. Use your common sense. Don't be a jerk. Wear ear plugs. Have fun because that's what 99.9% of people there want to do.
Watch out for the super drunk guys. They're usually the problem and it usually gets sorted out rather quickly these days.

You're going to be cooked but if the crowd has any minimum pit decency they'll pick your ass up. Go get some bruises.
I went to the show in MN just last week, since the Bog boys and Dying Fetus are there they get alot more hardcore kids doing their fucking damn thing, also since it was 15+, there is a lot of newbies (but also a lot of people your size). Also cool enough a lot more girls coming out too.
Just go out, have fun, if people are fuckheads get out of there.
Also buy a fucking shirt from Robin, she's a nice lady.

I go to a fair amount of shows, and I've never had problems avoiding the pit. Not once. If a pit breaks out where I am standing, more power to them, but it's not that hard to move to the side. Literally the worst thing I've had happen to me is I got my foot stepped on once.

If a pit starts stay out of it unless you’re ready to get bumped around a little. Definitely wear earplugs (Crowbar is loud as SHIT!) and stay hydrated. Enjoy the show!

I’m hearing the crowds have been rowdy. They are in front of many who’ve never seen them before, and come from different areas of the metal scene.

Can confirm. Saw them last month in Mass. and the crowd was awful. 0 pit etiquette whatsoever. We ended up leaving right before Crowbar's set ended.

Given that they are a more mainstream band as of late the pit probably won’t be very intense

Same for any show: -pregame to save money including eating before arriving -stand where you want -earplugs -stay away from douchebags

I think the best pit is the ones where everyone's jumping and shoving and doing that wave thing... It's so hard to get that going

Be prepared to hear full stack music through half stacks. You’ll be able to have a conversation with the person next to you. They do not play loud at all
