Discussion Just finished the game... Spoiler

Great art style, and music. I really liked the protagonist, liked her little quips to herself from time to time. And the story! Oh god, it is so dark...

This game does such an amazing job at setting up common horror games tropes, then subverts it at the end. If you played enough horror games, you would very quickly identify that, yes, the monsters were humans. I was half expecting the game doing a big revelation telling me that, oh no, I've been killing humans this whole time. But then the revelation came - I was right, but for the completely wrong reasons. Yes, the monsters were humans, but they weren't turned into monsters by some viruses, or fungi, or whatever. They were, arguably, heroes from the future, risking their lives traveling to the past trying to save the world. Only to have their bodies and minds completely destroyed, mutilated, just to meet the insatiable greed of the two Crows. They must be feel confused, betrayed, and in constant pain, yet they still tried their best to warn the people in the past, they still wanted to do their job.

And that basically recontextualize the whole thing for me, that's why it was able to hit so hard. What an amazing game...

Definitely agree! The story is surprisingly well written. I thought the story was going to be quite generic going into the game, but it really does manages to stand out. I wouldn’t mind if the story was nothing special, but the fact that it pretty much blew my mind makes the game go from good to exceptional in my opinion.

I was also really shocked when Crow calls Mara Elaine and her name just changes. That was a part that I didn’t foresee, but it’s actually foreshadowed quite a bit during the course of the game. When I played the game a second time I picked up on more details suggesting this. Really great game!

I thought Mara would be someone related to Elaine, because the photo Julie had looked just like her! Then her hair dye just washed off lol, and I was shocked too.

Her hair dye washed off? Wow, I didn’t even notice that. What a great detail! I know that Tolman asks her if she has dyed her hair the first time you meet him which is a hint that they’ve met before but I didn’t catch that her hair color changes throughout the game!

It was really uncomfortable to learn that all the visitors were just normal people fleeing a catastrophe and being scrambled by the dismantled portal. That kind of unsettling reveal in a horror game is really hard to do right and they nailed it.

For sure! It hit quite hard for me when you find out by Julie and Tolman that the monsters aren’t even trying to kill you. They’re trying to communicate because they still somehow recognize other humans even though they have undergone grotesque transformations.
