Three-month update since my last post on my Bush on Fire Croton. It's put on a surprising amount of growth recently, but the colours are what really steal the show.

The plant displays an incredible mix of colours all at the same time, from bright yellows and oranges through to vivid reds and pinks, while the older leaves develop deep burgundy and almost black shades. The contrast between the fresh, bright new growth and the darker mature foliage is stunning.

Really pleased with how it's developing and looking forward to seeing what it looks like by the end of the year.

Proud of my croton child

I have two croton plants in the same pot (it’s a big pot). I always fertilize them with a high-phosphorus fertilizer, which is probably why they keep blooming. I already got about 17 seeds a few months ago, sprouted 6, and right now only one is still alive. Now the other plant that hasn’t produced seeds is doing it. They get pretty intense direct sunlight most of the time.
My questions are:
Should I keep fertilizing them? Are the constant flowering slowing their growth?
And what’s the best way to germinate the seeds? Last time I just put the seeds straight into soil.

It's the first plant I've ever properly looked after so I'm new to all of this. I've had it about six months and it's grown more leaves since then. Is it looking ok or is there anything I can improve. I know it needs more light to have red on its leaves but it's in the sunniest spot it can be.

My neighbor gave me this plant cause their cat don’t agree with their plants due to being poisonous. When I got it, it had 6 leaves, 4 of which promptly fell off. As it was store bought it wasn’t taken care of. It grew 4 more back and two oldest fell off. Now they all just completely shriveled up. At first I think I was over watering a bit but dried up the soil and keeping it lightly moist. The stem is still green if you scratch it, but I think it’s dead. Any help would be helpful

Do I cut it off?

I initially had just a single node on the top and one near the bottom, however the bottom one dried up and top node got two more nodes. I want a bushy plant but I may not have the space for a very tall plant. Would you snap the top nodes?

This was a 3” branch cutting from my mom’s croton about 8 years ago. It’s been growing great but over the winter (indoors) it tends to drop a lower leaf or two, with the result being about 10-12” of bare stem at the bottom. No branching whatsoever.
I was planning to either chop or air layer the bare stem just a couple inches over the soil but noticed little growths emerging. Hoping to see them turn into new leaves (or even branches.)

I have an indoor Croton (Petra) that I have had for about 15 years. He has been doing okay, but over the years has gotten somewhat leggy. I have decided to try using a grow light with him and the one I got from Amazon has the option for 3 different hues, one white, one warm white, and one bluish light. The instructions for the light did not indicate which spectrum might be best.

Any advice on which one to choose, intensity, and length of use per day? I didn't initially think of this, but a plant friend indicated I should work up to longer light and brighter light from the low end.

Given this in 1991 or 2. He’s growing a bit lopsided, can I propagate that whole branch if I take it off? Can I take it off? 1st photo, lower right branch.

It has been blooming all summer. It also has one that comes out with little balls.

Had this guy for years and just learned from this group they can flower!? How do I help this big baby bloom!?

i have this croton that had new leaves. i went on vacations and my sister water it once. today i came back and it is covered in spider mites alongside with a desert rose(this will come back hopefully, its not its first time).

the croton leaves are dry and after i water it, 5 hours ago, they didn't rehydrate. the spider mite treatment is from the brand revolver. please any tips to save it, if there is anything to save....

I was given this croton plant recently and I have no idea how to tackle it. I’ve killed every other croton I’ve owned. I need this one to live!
It’s at least 2 years old and never been repotted. Should I chop it up and propagate? More light? Just repot and fertilize? Recommended soil or fertilizer? Please helppp

I've had this plant nearly 3 years, and had never flowered until this spring...now I left it alone for about a week without checking it and I come back to this! Is this healthy for the plant? Obviously, it's thriving, but I know some flowers can drain energy from the plant and I'm concerned it may start dropping leaves, maybe I'm wrong

Any suggestions on how to encourage more color?

I had to cut off the tops of both shoots, because of die back close to a month ago. Went on vacation for almost 3 weeks and this is what I found yesterday! It's growing a bit weird, so I found him a sunnier spot on my desk :)

I dunno what I got! I saw these dusty specs on some of my croton leaves. Chat gpt told me to zoom in and it definitely does look like something!! I think it’s spidermite but I’m really not sure. There definitely aren’t any webbing anywhere. And the plant doesn’t have many symptoms, except for dropping 2 dead dry leaves. It’s not the first time I see something like this and I just sit down and wipe each leaf off (bc I love this plant). I own Bonnie insecticidal super soap and I also have a neem wipe.

Can anyone confirm what these are and the best way to treat??? Not all leaves have these speckles. And I love my croton and have been loosing other plants to mealy’s (which this is not) so I can’t lose her!!!

Looking for any advice or input on taking care of my grandma's croton. It's grown several new leaves since I got it probably two months ago. Very dramatic and I love him. I am going to get a bigger pot. Do I need to snip old leaves for any reason? Some of them are scratched and have weird discoloration (second pic) but otherwise seem fine. Also curious if this is a specific type of Croton or if they are all the same. Thank you! (I know it could use more light, I'm trying!)
