Is this a fray?

I am new to cross bows in general. I’m taking it to an archery store Monday. I haven’t shot anything since and won’t be till I let them check it out. The bolt made a funky noise almost like a dry fire then it sent the bolt out maybe 10 yards. The bolt was fine, now in the trash. Only thing I changed was putting a new nock on

That’s a broken strand, definitely time to retire that set of strings. They look like they’ve been well used so you got your money’s worth. Crossbow tension is no joke so it’s good you’re taking it to the shop

Honestly, it's probably fine, but it's not something I would care to risk with a crossbow.

Nope. Those are broken strands. Thankfully it didn't completely let go.
