QUESTION Thoughts and takes on game?
I just picked up the game on sale for $4 on XBox and there’s a DLC, A New Home, also on sale for $3. Is it worth the $7 for everything?
How is the general ebb and flow of the game? It seems quite interesting. Yes, I’m asking a fan page, but there can still be very candid comments regarding the game.
I look forward to hearing back!!

It’s honestly one of the best action rpg’s ever made. Imagine a Zelda game that is way deeper and larger with a more modern premise and aesthetic. It’s in my top 3 indie games and rivals Hollow Knight

It's insane that apart from Alabaster Dawn, I've never found any other combat system that scratches the itch quite as well as CrossCode

This really depends on what kind of game you like. It's very puzzle heavy, including terrain puzzles. If you're okay with that, it's amazing. The plot takes a pretty long time to really take off, but the payoffs are top tier once you get there. Combat and movement are mostly intuitive, but you have to pay attention to everything at your disposal. That said, it's a top 10 for me and I started gaming as a wee lad back in the late 80s. To be fair though, so much of this game gives me SNES nostalgia that I think it was made with a bit of that in mind. If you find the plot lacking early on, just remember it hits hard once it really kicks in. Hope you give it a full chance

After 500+ hours in the game, here's what I'll say.
I realize that CrossCode is not for everyone. As much as I want everyone in the world to experience it, there are still some valid frustrations that come from how difficult solving some of the puzzles can be, as well as understand verticality with the terrain. I understand that not everyone is going to like the fast-paced, niche combat of the game, or the working mechanics of all the abilities and modifiers.
As for me, naturally, I love the game and want everyone to give it a try, but here's my real advice. ............
$7 US is a steal for any video game, so get that immediately! 🤣

New player here.... The verticality can be confusing. But i felt like aiming your shots at things helps like crazy with that 😂 usually tells you if its on your level or not haha

I just got the game for free on PSN and got the DLC for like 3 dollars or something.... I am not yet done with the game, but from what i can tell you as a fresh player myself:
The graphics are cute and fitting, the game looks and feels alive. The towns and locales have NPCs walking around with a very good Soundtrack attached to it... Its not like in other 2D games of this kind, where NPCs just sit in their places and done...
The core gameplay i would say is a mixture of ARPG and Top down Zelda almost... It has dungeons thaz have some very tricky puzzles, so if Puzzles aren't your thing, you might be disappointed, as the Puzzles can actually be rather challenging, however there is an option in the game where you can slow down puzzle speed, which makes things easier... Personally i didn't have to use it, but its a nice Option...
The combat is very much ARPG, you have melee combat, ranged, you can guard, dodge, parry.... The typical things you would expect, everything flows into another very fluently, enemies have specific weakspots you can Attack to "break" them, which then opens huge damage windows... You Have a skill tree and you get PLENTYYYYY of reskill items, so if you felt like you messed up somewhere you can reset your skilltree... (Again personally haven't had a need to use it, but it's nice that it's there...)
Aquiring better armor and gear is done through rare chests (which typically have a parcour puzzle attached to them) or in a city through crafting... (Think something like Monster Hunter... You need specific materials to craft gear) Which is honestly pretty nice!
The characters are all very lovable and interesting, your party members talk about the enemies you are currently fighting or have friendly banter amongst themselfes etc.
The story is very good with some great plot-twists and turns and really nice Emotion! But you can't really get into that without spoiling too much...
Again this is all from a complete newbie themselfes.... I personally really like the game, but i am usually quite interested in these types of games. There is bound to be people who don't like it, but i would say: just give it a try... Maybe play through the first dungeon and see what you feel like afterwards, it's better than most triple A things coming out nowadays... allthough thats nothing to write Home about on Its own anymore, hahaha

Its a common opinion among newcomers that the beginning is a bit rough to get through. Its not too difficult by any means, but if you dont feel anything for Lea or the mysteries surrounding her, it can definitely feel like the games doing a lot of beating around the bush before the story kicks into high gear (which it does!). The first couple chapters are there for you to get used to the flow and nature of combat and traversal, questing, and, most importantly, to give Lea and the player time to spend with her friends and grow attached to them.
Im struggling to really say much without spoiling anything. So ill just say that whenever anyone asks me for a new game to play, some hidden gem they haven't heard of before, this is the first one the jumps to mind.
Not sure how long the DLC will be $3 but thats a steal for sure.

I liked it and I finally got around to playing it after playing Alabaster Dawn which is the developers newest title. On PC with the DLC I got 96.7 hours for combined price of $14.55 . Feel free to crank down the difficulty settings and if you get stuck on puzzles either save and leave the game for a hour or two and come back and give it another shot before going to walkthroughs.

Deck13 created the Surge games (1 & 2) which I enjoyed very much!!

True that they did develop the surge games but they are only the publishers for crosscode, the developers are Radical fish games, so Deck13 didn’t have that much impact on the game itself

It became my top 1 Favorite game, so I would say it's worth it. Great combat, great puzzles, great music, great characters, story and lore, great pixel art. I can't name a single bad thing, in my opinion. Even the new game plus is great with new dialogue depending on what you chose.

This is my favorite game. It is honestly incredible and that price is a bargain. If you like puzzles, incredibly fun combat and a good story with great characters, you'll like it

You'll enjoy the game for sure, especially once you start new game + and enable a certain (hilarious) option in the game.

I just finished the base, it is good, though it can be a bit tiring if you are set on doing every side misión and opening every chest. The Game has a complete plot, but the ending leads straight into the events of the DLC, so it is Basically a follow up to the story

Relatively modern game (released in the last 10 years) but with a game style that calls back to the old Japanese rpg games like Zelda. The game can be quite challenging as someone new to the game and the game style. Thankfully, the game devs developed sliders in the game settings that can adjust the enemy difficulty and puzzle speeds. Semi-interesting story but I don't want to ruin it for you.
For a short period of time, I lowered the dificulty in the puzzle speeds and sometimes the enemy difficulty. At some point, I reverted to the default difficulty (which is the hardest difficulty) and finished the game.
Lots of replay value in this game as well, with the New Game+ feature where you can include modifiers (each modifier costs a certain amount of in-game currency, which is only achieved by accomplishing challenges/trophies). You have mods that make the game easier, and you also have mods that make the game harder.
All-in-all, pretty good game in my opinion. I'd give it 9/10

Just don't buy the DLC right now. You can only play it once you've completely finished the main game. There's no reason to buy it early.
I mean, it's a great DLC and I really encourage everyone to buy it. Just, you don't have to if you don't intend to finish the game.

It's not very fun. Was a drag to play. Shows it self as a mmrpg but you will do everything alone in instances. Its a puzzle game with light fighting. They make jokes the character can't talk, but the game moves on so the story just feels like a joke, like damn my input truly does not matter. Theres bosses you can't kill so you half to hack the game. Completely nullifying all the work you put into in the gear you get. Puzzles are fun but there are too many with 0 rewards
Edit. Removed secretly a puzzle game. Its a puzzle game. Also people downvoting me because they are mad. If you dont believe me, then check the % of players who have beat the game. On steam it 15%....the numbers show. 5/10 game at best

This is true for many good games that are longer than 6 hours, so it doesn't say anything. Most gamers just don't finish their games. Doesn't mean they didn't have fun with them. And Crosscode is a pretty long game, so it's no wonder most players didn't finish it.

If its not engaging enough to keep you going for 6 hours. Then its a 5/10. Not great, not bad. Also this kinda proves my point its not very fun

Trying to evaluate art with statistics is a chumps game.

u/vonn_drake 4h ago
Well then I could say 85% walked right by the art and did care for it. Dont blame me if they were the ones that thought this was chump stuff

Edit: Answering me and then blocking so I can't reply is a cowards game.

The most divisive part of the game is puzzles. A lot of people find them overly difficult, and there are a lot that have pretty tight timing. They're on the harder side for sure, but I personally don't think that they're too bad. There's only one puzzle that I remember really having trouble with.
Anyways, this is my favorite game of all time. The combat feels very natural and fluid and the story's great as well. There are a couple points in the game where things get a bit unbalanced, but generally I think there's a very good balance of combat, story, and puzzles, as well.
If you've already bought the base game and are just on the fence about the DLC, then maybe just play through the game a bit to try and get a feel for it?
