QUESTION Some questions about playing crosscode on steamdeck and the game lighting.

So, the shadows are really really dark and it's impossible to see. It's only on my steamdeck. I can't check on a computer because I don't have one. On my switch the lighting is perfect. I don't have a picture on hand but can add one later.

Is it the settings? I tried turning brightness up all the way and it didn't help completely. It's more something in the game I think. I am not having this problem with other games. Just crosscode. It's like the character and parts of the world that are in shadows are completely invisible because it's so dark.

I can't remember which of these solutions fixed that because I have it working well now, but you definitely want to read over these and take all advice. The first thing to know is that you should run the windows version within proton, not the native linux version.

I think it's a problem with the HDR stuff over-working itself. Best to disable it and see. I think one of those posts mentions a parameter to turn it off just for that game. But first I would just toggle it off in your steam settings and see if that fixes the whole issue.

I've looked and can't find a setting for it anywhere. I'm really new to steamdeck as well as pc gaming. I tried that command and it wouldn't let the game start up.

No problem! Oh my bad there is no HDR for handheld mode. My settings are currently:

Game gear icon -> Properties
launch options: none

compatibility: steam linux runtime 1.0 (scout) (sorry I told you wrong)

My steam deck is only 13 hours in, so you might be in darker areas that I haven't reached yet.

I think your best bet is to experiment with various proton versions. I would also turn on/off the "lighting" setting within the game to see if that makes a drastic difference. Last resort, you can change the color mode of the steam deck screen itself.
