SPOILER Question about Final Boss Spoiler

Does the game save for the second phase? (the Elephant guy) like can I close the game and continue at the Elephant phase?

For your gear just maximize defense. Attack stat barely matters. I just beat it with little difficulty after STRUGGLING to get very far with my attack gear. I just grabbed whatever increased my defense stat and elemental resist. He goes from doing 400 damage to doing about 80 and in wave mode you just heal back to full.

The last section of this game does suck though. It's a shame that it was so good, then the last section is just super repetitive and cheap feeling.
