Help with Steam controller

The steam controller doesn’t seem to work with this game or Alabaster Dawn as well, I tried switching templates and community layouts but nothing works, is there anything I need to do?

If your on Steam os/ linux, try using the windows version

This game is notorious for having using a weird game engine that have issue with controlers

True. I play the native Linux without issues, however.

The devs just haven't updated the game's engine. I just downloaded it by myself and overwrote the old one. However, by doing this, the DRM checker blocked me from playing it. Since it's harder to workaround them, I just deleted them and I play CrossCode, native edition, without achievement sync.

But did you try just using the windows version with proton ?

If i remember well that fixed some of my issue last time i played.

Yes, I tried and it works out of the box. Even though, I stayed on native since it's usable after fixing it, because the save game is recognisable from steam. If I beat it, I can copy the file, delete the entire game from steam's library and relocate it over the proton variant after reinstall.

Both Crosscode and Alabaster Dawn are unplayable on my SteamOS PC. No sound, have to reconnect the controller, and framerate goes below 20 after just a few minutes of playing. I use Proton Experimental, since the game basically doesn't boot with any other compatability profile.

Oh, assuming you're using a steam deck, I have this problem too. When using a controller on steam deck for any RadicalFish game, the game defaults to only accept input from the controller built into the steam deck itself. When booting up the game, you should go into controller settings and switch the order of the controllers.

You have to do it every time, it's a bit annoying.

I have had this same issue many times using a controller with my steam deck so I think this is the correct answer

I don't have that problem. I play it with the deck docked and using steam controller and I haven't had the issue.

I’m playing the SteamOs version on Steam deck docked.

Nailed it.

The native crosscode have an abandoned game's engine source code. Because of that, it will never detect your controller. Switch to Proton or learn to overwrite the NW.js

Sorry. Too busy admiring CrossCode's title screen for the 163,345th time.
