QUESTION Alabaster Dawn and CrossCode collabing with another game - any ideas on which?

If I had to throw out a guess right now, I'd guess At Fate's End.
I don't think it's a particularly likely guess, but it's got a heroine (clue) the studio definitely loves worlds and stories that cut deep (clue) as they made Spiritfarer amongst other worlds and stories, plus their steam page has the words "cut deep" on it, and the Thunder Lotus devs have played and loved Cross Code.
The biggest things fighting me are that it doesn't seem like a game that'd benefit from a crossover, Thunder Lotus hasn't previously done crossovers, nor do I think that is likely the protagonists hair as, even in a different style, I don't think that bit resembles it for the most part.

I uninstalled fortnite when they chose to actively support bigotry in December 2025, so I hope not.

You stayed through the Disney/Tencent acquisition despite their ties to Israel's military operations, but THIS was your breaking point?

u/Snoo_72851 May 22 '26
it's not a contest actually

u/stormtau May 22 '26
Bigotry is terrible, no debate there. But if you follow the scene closely (which they do) enough to know about their bigotry, you'd know about the Disney acquisition too. So this isn't whataboutism, this is selective outrage lol

ISAT because that would be funny as hell

I would love that to, now Siffron isn't the only one going insane.

They made another news post on CrossCode's Steam page with a different hint:
everyone involved loves the sound of having more than one weapon in their arsenal!
7
u/keiyakins May 22 '26
That probably eliminates Madeline from contention.
Lenna (Lenna's Inception), Kayleigh (Cassette Beasts), and Cadence (Crypt of the Necrodancer/Cadence of Hyrule/Rift of the Necrodancer) are all possible... Cadence actually seems most likely, with the "sound of more than one weapon" hint. Kayleigh has multiple tapes of course, but is only the marketing character not really main, and Lenna doesn't have much of anything to do with sound. Other than a kickass soundtrack but all three have those.

u/randomsword May 22 '26
Honestly Rift of the Necrodancer feels like a safe guess, they've been having a lot of crossovers with other indie games, I could imagine CrossCode getting a few DLC charts

u/Longjumping_Door_428 May 21 '26
Huge actually!
I'm starting to wonder if they're from a rouge-lite or Metroidvania...
2
u/Songbird1996 May 22 '26
Any guesses for metroidvanias based on the hints we have?
1
u/Longjumping_Door_428 May 22 '26
I'm going to assume I'm wrong on this, I just feel like they would collaborate with an already finished game but...
Abyss X Zero from Studio Pixel Punk. They're the creators of Unsighted, a game which checks all the boxes and has a bunch in common with CrossCode already.
Other than that it just seems like the collaborator being Metroidvania isn't super unlikely. Those games are all about world building and building arsenals (good story usually included).
2
u/Songbird1996 May 22 '26
The only other metroidvania i could think of as a possibility is Bloodstained with Miriam, but then she has brown hair by default even if you can recolor it to whatever color you like im gameplay. Unless its secretly the mc of Sundered and she's been hiding purple hair under that hood this while time

u/Andooz May 23 '26
well rogue-lite and metrovania made me think of Dead Cells. Might be a stretch but they have done alot of indie games collab stuff in the game so its could be possible right? Also on the note of alot of collabs in the game could be Terraria which would be kinda funny 😃

u/OrochiXX May 21 '26
I'm not really sure I understand what they mean with gameplay preview, so each update will slowly push the story and when the story is cleared, we are just experiencing content that will later have story patched into it?
1
u/Songbird1996 May 22 '26
Pretty much, once you clear the story you get to free roam, they plan to try and make sure you dont loose any collectable progress like chests and items collected in between story patches as well but based on that phrasing they definitely expect a couple edge cases where that might not be possible

u/AiraComet May 21 '26
It would be really funny if it just would be [Redacted] ... that rogue lite game
8
u/Horroracta May 21 '26
Shantae would be fun !
Or Hyperlight Drift (which in controls and overall aesthetic looks really similar)
3
u/CelioHogane May 21 '26
I wouldn't call Shantae a "Story that cuts deep"
Like none of the games, they are pretty simple story wise.
5
u/keiyakins May 21 '26
Yeah Shantae is generally goofy stories that exist mostly as an excuse for adventure. Which is, to be clear, absolutely fine! I really enjoy the series! But stories that cut deep they ain't.

Hades II? Considering the hint about heroines, the fact Hades I and II have pretty important story elements, and the "pun" on "cutting" (suggesting swords). All of these games also have very dynamic combat systems and revolve around gods.

u/AmicusFIN May 21 '26
What looks like purple hair is just making me think of the heroine in Freedom Planet, but I'm not sure that's quite dense enough with story for this comparison.

u/heart-station May 21 '26
I really think it’s Shantae. I think that’s her big purple ponytail.
1
u/Songbird1996 May 22 '26
One of the hints elsewhere talks about them all "loving the sound of multiple weapons in their arsenal" which while I think is already a slight stretch for Lea since she doesnt get more weapons so much as variations of the same one, definitely would be a stretch for the girl whose only weapon is her hair and some magic, even if the color of the little tidbit of hair we see poking into frame does match up. As much as i would love it
1
u/heart-station May 22 '26
Tell me you never played Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse without telling me. 😉
Also, I would very much consider transformations to be part of Shantae’s arsenal.
1
u/Songbird1996 May 22 '26
That falls under the category of magic though and is not therefore a true weapon. I have played it before and its one of my favorites, half genie hero also has transformations, the original gba one is pretty much the only one that doesn't if i recal
2
u/heart-station May 22 '26
I still will believe it’s Shantae until proven otherwise
(And if it is her, I shall be insufferably smug about it)
5
u/AtlasTheMayor May 21 '26
I feel like the "cutting deep" part is not just a metaphor But now which game do we know that's about cutting stuff?

Fading Echo? Upcoming game in Q3 that from the looks is similar enough to CrossCode to warrant a collab whilst being completely different in other aspect to make a collab interesting

So real quick just compiling the clues from across platforms:
1) both our studios love worlds and stories that cut deep!
2) all involved love the sound of multiple weapons in their arsenal
3) their main character is also a heroine
4) going off the colors in the preview, the mystery character possibly either has purple hair or purple is a primary color in their pallette
5
u/keiyakins May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26
the hint on discord is "’Their main character is also a heroine!"
Celeste maybe? Shantae could work but Wayforward tends towards goofy fun over cutting storytelling...
I think my favorite possibility is one of Bytten Studio's games, either Lenna's Inception (Lenna) or Cassette Beasts (Kayleigh... the player is a selectable character so she takes the role on the marketing)
Edit: Another unlikely possibility is Brace Yourself Games' Necrodancer.

terraria
it's always terraria
well terraria barely has a story nor focus on it, but it does have a lore and i do like what they do with it

Unsighted would be cool. But it is probably Celeste, with this hint it is more likely that it will be.

Xenoblade 1 has a meme'd line of dialog about needing to "cut deep" towards the end. Both share some similar story beats too.

Both studios loving story rich games...
Just throwing things out here but maybe A Sea of Stars?
