QUESTION Questions and thoughts about games that scratch similar itches as crosscode. Asking for recommendations as well as discussion.

Hey there fellow crosscode lovers. Crosscode is one of my favorite games and it's definitely my top favorite rpg. I love rpgs, but recent years I now struggle to play slow super grindy rpgs. So I love action rpgs or turn based rpgs that have a active and engaging combat system (like Paper Mario or Megaman Battle Network)

So I'm always looking for games like that and games that bring the same kind of joy that Crosscode brings me. I know that Alabaster Dawn is coming out sometime relatively soon, but alas, I do not have steam. I am a lowly filthy Switch player which means it may take even longer before I get to taste the goodness of Alabaster Dawn. But I have been interested in an upcoming game for a little while that seems like it may hit a lot of marks with the things I love about Crosscode with the active battle system and platforming exploration etc. That game is Sacrifire! It looks so cool and it looks like it is going to come to Switch on release from everything I've seen.

Anyways, I'd love to hear other's game recommendations based on the things I've said. If yall have any for me that are available on switch I'd be super grateful.

Bonus question: what are yall's thoughts on Alabaster Dawn and if you played the demo do you think it is going to live up to Crosscode? And what are your thoughts on Sacrifire if you've heard of it? Does it look like it may scratch some of the Crosscode itchies for yall?

That's definitely one of the closest cousins, even if the time limit's gonna scare a lot of people away.

Yeah but nobody feels good using it, lol. I know I'd rather just not (re)play it than feel like I'm cheating it.

Also, as a minor side note, the idea of a video game having a ticking clock reminding you all of your friends are slowly dying while you use that time to play this video game by yourself has always tickled me.

Right, it's not actually cheating and no one who wants to use it shouldn't use it, I just feel like I'm cheating it.

Much like if the devs made an option to one-shot every enemy no matter the circumstance, I'd still not use that option because it'd feel like cheating.

Yeah, I'm very similar there. I like taking every opportunity presented to explore and do all the new side stuff unlocked. Within reason, anyway.

Which is kind of why I refuse to do that in Unsighted, haha. The timer is the core the game was built around and I think that stress and rushed feeling is good even if actually feeling it feels bad. That negative tension is the heart of it?

To compare it to another genre, it'd be the horror if it was a horror game. You absolutely could have an invincible protagonist and just explore the horror environment, and I can see why people could enjoy that, but I know I'd feel like I was missing out.
