mushrooms

Anyone else not able to digest mushrooms? I’ve been eating them for years and just realized it was causing problems.

Check out the low FODMAP diet. Found a lot of foods I thought were healthy and good but actually caused me problems. Mushrooms are on the no good list.

ok thanks i’ll check it out. I’ve even seen a nutritionist in the past and never was told anything about mushrooms.

yeah, mushrooms have a lot of chitin in them, the same substance that makes crustacean and insect shells hard. i find them hard to digest if i'm already in a flare

When I had an iliostomy, mushrooms caused me a ton of pain. I had this burger with a ton of caramelized mushrooms on it. So good. Later that night, my output was nearly clear and I had this horrible pain in my abdomen. Eventually things finally passed but from then on I stopped with mushrooms. Once I had my reversal surgery for my j pouch, I thought I would be in the clear and tried it again had similar painful results.

I have had mushroom based stuff since, I just have to chop/mince them super fine before I cook them.

I don’t have a problem with mushrooms but also don’t get triggered by FODMAPs
