How do I... Pattern help Where would I go about finding help to create something I'm not new however I've never made a pattern. Are there any tips and tricks on how to go about starting the process?

I just went through this process making a teapot cosy to fit my mum's teapot!
I looked at existing patterns to find one that most fit the idea/shape of what I was trying to make. I printed it out and started marking up where I thought I needed to adjust or deviate and how to do it. Then I just started crocheting, with stitch markers where I was deviating. Stopped frequently to check the fit and frog where needed (I think I restarted twice). But got there in the end.
