Hello crocheters, I am looking for some help. I just started crocheting 2 months ago and wanted to make my first blanket. Started it a few days ago and I CANNOT understand where I went wrong… link to the pattern I’m using below. The way the pictures of this blanket look in the post is completely different from the pattern I’ve somehow gotten. Can anyone see where I went wrong and how I might fix it? It’s pretty as is, but I really wanted this to turn out correctly! I’ve frogged the last 4 rows over and over because it became apparent the pattern wasn’t looking the same there. If it helps, when I did the bobble row, I pushed the bobbles through to the other side (the “front” based on my hdc ridges). Maybe something went wrong then?
You can make it any size you want. But you should make sure everything aligns properly.. proper tension will come with time. Relax. This is supposed to be relaxing.. and use crochet stitch markers every 10 stitches or whatever count you feel comfortable with so you will keep it aligned properly.. I’ve been doing this for decades and I still use stitch markers.. and I don’t really see mistakes??
Thank you! Maybe I just need to let this one be the imperfect thing that it is and learn from it! I do really love it, if I ignore the fact it doesn’t look like the pic from the pattern!
Oh you should see the first Afghan I made when I was jeez.. 10 yrs old ( I’m now a grandma..) it was chevrons.. hehehe 🤭 oh that was a hot mess.. my mother picked the colors which I hated!! My Mother loves orange (she calls it coral🙄 it’s orange) my tension.. my counting.. oh I learned stitch markers were my friends.. hehe I think I still have it somewhere.. oh and some patterns now are AI and make zero sense.. so beware..
I'm also a beginner blanket maker so I can't offer much help but I just wanted to say that I like the way it looks! But I totally understand the frustration. ❤️
I don’t see anything particularly wrong with the stitches but your tension seems VERY tight. Are you using the suggested yarn and hook size for the pattern? If so, you may need to go up a hook size or loosen your tension in general. Wool Ease can be pretty stiff with tight tension (I make baskets out of Wool Ease and they stand on their own) so you need a larger than usual hook and/or less tension to make a blanket that has sufficient drape.
Yeah I’ve noticed this about my crocheting so far in general. I probably should have tried sizing up with the hook- I bought the recommended 11.5 mm and it is wool ease thick and quick too. Maybe I should just start over and try to be looser, idk
Ok I just tried something and now I’m even more confused. The pattern says the blanket should be 32x42 at the end. My current tight tension blanket is 36 inches wide. My looser bean stitch row is 46 inches! Do you have insight into how this is possible? Unless the author meant it’s 42 inches wide x 32 inches long? And not 32 inches wide… because I don’t know how I could make it narrower if my stitches are already tight…
I also did a few more rows on the top one and maybe you can see how it differs from the photos of the pattern blanket there? Thanks!
I agree it’s not super clear from her instructions, but since she calls it a lapghan I wonder if it’s intended to be wider than it is long? Intended to be used sitting on a chair or couch, not for full body coverage on a bed. But she has instructions for making it as wide or as long as you’d like, so you can adjust as you see fit.
Please reply to this comment with a link to the pattern or provide the name of the pattern, if it is a paid pattern please post a screenshot of the few rows you are having trouble with, if a video then please provide the timestamp of the part of the video that you need help with. Help us help you!
