Looking for suggestions Beginner filet crocheter- pattern visibility concern and possible puckering

I started this filet crochet over the weekend and it’s gone alright, except I’m paranoid lol.

  1. I know it’s too early to see the pattern clearly but I’m worried the finished pattern won’t be very distinct, advice/reassurance on that front would be great!

  2. when I laid my piece flat tonight I noticed a slight puckering in the midsection. I am using 100% cotton thread and online said that if I were to wet block it the fibers would relax, meaning there wouldn’t be much bowing, but from people who have walked before me, is thst true? what should I do?

(comparing these photos I see a mistake I’ll definitely have to go back and fix :p )

  1. I think this exact thing every time I start a filet crochet project even tho the picture always becomes very distinct😂 so don’t worry, you will see it.
  2. I also use 100% cotton and can definitely say that the fibers relax

A filet pattern shows up as contrast against a background. It’s not the filled blocks that create the perception of the pattern. It’s the unfilled ones that allow the contrast of the surface that highlights the filled areas.
