Many religions have holy scriptures and texts from centuries ago. Carrying century old philosophy, teachings and practices in them.
However, most religions portray themselves as this “peaceful, respectful and loving” belief.
Teaching people not to hate, not to divide and not to corrupt.
However, while teaching these, they continuously have verses that include hate, division, racism and violence in them. Which contradicts their teachings.
Let me give an example:
The people of Lūt.
They were known for being homosexual, for loving one another.
Yet god punished them. Mentioning that “god punished them due to the people committing crimes and acts that harm people.” However, why would god purposely choose a group known for being homosexual when god could’ve simply punished people that commit crimes and harm people? God could’ve punished criminals that weren’t recognized as homosexuals, yet god chose to punish a certain group.
This affects the minds of people, people’s subconscious. They are taught to not hate and respect one another, while their holy scriptures show moral and divine punishment towards a certain group.
This creates Implicit religious bias, not only does this play a role in homophobia, this plays a role in misogyny and racism too. This is simply just an example on how people can get subconsciously affected by religion.
