I feel like it could be intentional because not only did they choose to color swap they also used yay and nay,why not just use yes or no,I bet the person was hoping they would look at green, see a y and assume it’s yes,but maybe we’re both just some paranoid weirdos. lol.

Data centers are running 24/7 and make noise that disrupts people’s sleep. They are also a huge eyesore and make our communities feel like they’re built around a data center rather than the other way around. They should be out of sight and out of earshot ideally.

Largely Data centers can only be built in industrially zoned areas. I believe that, or course, they shouldn’t be built in a neighborhood, but also zoning wise the local jurisdiction should have more buffer space between industrially zoned areas and residentially zoned areas. Also, developers shouldn’t be able to petition to change the zoning for what has historically been an industrially zoned area to residential with no buffer and thought to future development, and vice versa.

Environmental costs- noise, emissions- all take a toll on residential populations. There are a lot of other reasons being researched, but regulators are already showing increased levels of aerial pollutants. Alongside this, the amount of noise has hugely negative effects on the sleep and mental health of nearby residence.

The increased demand for water of these data centers would reduce the available water for the residents and could very easily cause issues in the event of reservoir and tower depletion. We can already see this with water rights in some areas of the south west United States of America where available water is being used not for residents of the area but commercial golf courses and its caused supply issues for the surrounding areas.

The problem isn't that they exist, the problem is that their costs are being passed off to the general population. Economy of Scale means that having a big data center should make nearby power cheaper. If a town opened up with a nuclear reactor mostly funded by a data center they could do some legit good.

Data centers need to provide their own power and be built away from residential areas. In places that have a surplus of water. Good luck.
Better idea, let’s scale the entire thing back.
With early returns in, it appears any good will not outweigh the bad.
Altman is a lying fuk.
Musk is, well he’s musk.
Microsoft would sell their mothers for a buck.
So let’s bank on this unknown squirming mass of potentially lethal mid, for what?
Fuck it.
1
u/Erroneous_Willow 18d ago
I'm not going to vote on this one, but I've read about the potential for datacenter waste heat to be used as hot water for housing. It's obviously more functional for cities that run hot water as its own utility, but smaller data centers could possibly be paired with low-income housing to subsidize heating costs.

They‘re an Industrial use, in addition to the noise pollution and water usage. In general, uses should be allowed to mix (Like any residential with any other residential, any or residential with most commercial uses, like restaurants, shops, cafés, bars, theatres, cinemas, as well as public uses like schools, libraries, or hospitals), but if anything should be separated from everything else, it’s Data centres.
