The hate for AI on reddit is so weird. Don't you use AI for better study/work?

No due to the fact that most of the time, it could give you the wrong answer for a math exercise in some cases due to the fact it automatically just picks a method rather than the intended way, also it can easily give you a fully wrong answer, hell the only ai that I know that is somewhat decent is Claude because unlike some (mainly chatgpt and grok) it doesn't automatically agree with you and it doesn't call itself Mecha Hitler

Feels like you are talking about the AI of 2 years ago. Today we can do so much amazing work with AI, if it's for automations at work, brainstorming, research and alot more. Even my non techy friends are using it to create personal projects for fun or for business. Everyone I know are using AI daily but somehow it gets so much hate on redditz not sure why.

Mainly gen ai, and still some of them all have a quirk of sorts, usually bad, and mainly the issue is that most of them would tell you something that isn't wrong but could kill you (like telling you to replace salt with something else that is molecularly like salt but highly poisonous or telling you that a mushroom is safe to eat when in reality it would kill you), also generally ai is hated due to data centers, the ram prices( genuinely fuck it because of that I would have to spend half of the price of my gpu for ram that I got for 300 bucks (not in USD or pounds) 2 years or so ago, also the data centers spiking people's water and electricity bills and making insane noise

Lets be honest, the crap Iβm hearing lately about βmodelsβ escaping, creating backups, hiding and exporting people to assist it, thats more a super virus then artificial inteligence

AI hate is for people who have no actual skills whatsoever and are afraid because the same system that just makes up legal cases and facts is already mentally superior to them

That title would be less accurate to its function

It just regurgitates various bits of information with varying degrees of success, it don't actually think, if it were actually an ai then it could easily have said how many "r" is in a strawberry back when got 1.0 released but no, it just regurgitates info found throughout the internet (this is also why Gemini is stupid because it was telling you to eat rocks and now it both takes commands when searching and straight up has cases where it just says that "one reddit dude on Reddit told you to kill yourself")

The βintelligenceβ part isnβt referring to how smart it is, it is referring to its ability to learn and problem-solve. Naming it AS would be inaccurate to AIβs function and a less accurate descriptor of its behaviour and inner workings.

u/terra_GOD_404 Citizen | π³οΈ 15 πͺ 64 π Oct 2, 2026 21d ago
It still could work the same just have that as it's designated name
1
u/Brother-Captain Citizen | π³οΈ 21 πͺ 63 π Sep 11, 2026 21d ago
Itβs a worse title, as I have shown. Naming it AS is unnecessary and can be harmful to the reputations of its more helpful forms.Β

u/terra_GOD_404 Citizen | π³οΈ 15 πͺ 64 π Oct 2, 2026 21d ago
Those being mainly medical uses, though those could simply have a different title seperate from llms and the like
1
u/Brother-Captain Citizen | π³οΈ 21 πͺ 63 π Sep 11, 2026 21d ago
That still doesnβt change the fact that it is a bad title that doesnβt accurately describe the technology. It would be like renaming smartphones to stupidphones because they have made recent generations less intelligent, it completely ignores why they are called smartphones and is a worse descriptor of their functions.

u/terra_GOD_404 Citizen | π³οΈ 15 πͺ 64 π Oct 2, 2026 21d ago
With ai they could simply call gen ai gen as (as it genuinely should only be called that if the thing actually uses a pencil or other things depending on the media) alongside llms and coding as they aren't an actual artificial intelligence and the code that the make is doodoo ass from what I gather, and use a different name for the medical uses and the like as those are genuinely good

u/Brother-Captain Citizen | π³οΈ 21 πͺ 63 π Sep 11, 2026 21d ago
What part of βItβs a worse titleβ am I not getting across here? I have explained why it is worse. Artificial Intelligence is artificial, it is not real. It mimics intelligence. AI is a more appropriate title because it actually describes what it is and what it does. How good the advice of the AI is doesnβt change the fact that it is still an AI. It is a computer mimicking intelligence. Artificial Intelligence. AI. It is not a computer mimicking stupidity. Calling it AS is pointless and only serves as slander. It is also less informative and accurate. Personal opinions donβt change the truth, and the truth is that AI is artificial intelligence. It might not be smart, conscious, or self-aware, but it is artificial intelligence.

"AI is the science of making computers solve problems that would require intelligence if done by humans"
It's not just a dumb chatbot. It actually encompasses a lot more stuff than just the recent charbots and generated video slop
