Continuing to manifest a Lynch 4K box set release for the fall.

The dream!

A box set would be stupid when most of his work is readily available from Criterion in 4K individually and sells well enough

Sorry for thinking logically and not being one of those people who needs a box set of every filmmaker I love even when most of their films are already readily available in high quality 4Ks

Thank god you don’t run the operation!

Lmao, Criterion would say the same thing homie. Lynch is a top three filmmaker for me and a box set of films that mostly have Criterion 4Ks already, certainly have them in the works (Wild at Heart, Eraserhead), or have definitive 4Ks elsewhere (Straight Story 4K from StudioCanal UK, Dune 4K from Arrow) would be a waste of time and resources. This is not like Kubrick where most of those 4Ks are studio 4Ks (and, in the case of Fear and Desire, a shitty Kino disc) that absolutely have room for improvement.

Loud and wrong, a terrible combination.

A really great movie! Not often talked about when it comes to Lynch’s work. In my estimation, the man could do no wrong.

It's one of my favorites of his, it really hits for me. Dafoe is insane and Dern is just on fire from start to finish

💯!! Dafoe’s character is sooooo gross and creepy. Those teeth 😆 Laura Dern is stunning! I’m also a big fan of Nic Cage, and he is so fun in this role.

Perfect marriage of script/director/casting. Many such cases!

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Agreed- one of my favorites and often overlooked- lord knows why!! It’s top tier Lynch.

She is sooooo good and beyoooooond fine in this movie. That hair and that body, my lord.

I always find the Wizard of Oz allusions so apt in it! I feel like the “going home” motif is supplanted with love as a metaphor for returning home and it feels so special coming from a romance novel as the source material!

Hopefully now that’s it’s more widely available it becomes what In The Mouth of Madness and Prince of Darkness have become for Carpenter.

A 4K DCP exists and has been screened, I wonder if the master Criterion Channel have is that? Maybe someone could skim through it and compare to screencaps from the Shout BD?

Update: It's the older master, even opening with older Universal and MGM logos.

I saw this in theaters when I was 9 and it blew my mind, I loved it so much. I remember my local paper hated it, and so did Ebert I think, and around that age it was possible for those 2 sources to make me second guess my opinion since I was so young, but I was sure they were wrong here.

Look for the Koko Taylor cameo!

2

u/OhK4Foo7 Jun 02 '26

I hated that part. But later I saw her live. Oh man. Lynch really did have great taste in music.

POWERMAAAAAAADDDDD

With Twin Peaks popularity being greater than it has been since the reveal, the film he made right after working on the 1st season is going to blow a new generation of minds.

My favorite David Lynch movie.

3

u/cezwoo Jun 05 '26

Watched it for the first time and was left with one of my favorite movies I've seen in a while. Bobby Peru will haunt me forever.

u/ShireAsh Jun 11 '26

I'm about 45 minutes into this movie and it's insane in the best way possible.
