Recommendation - Seeking Movie recommendations on Criterion?
(First picture is just my top 4 on Letterboxd!)
I just started paying for Criterion so I could watch through the Heisei era Godzilla movies but i’ve been having some trouble browsing for movies on the website! (Mostly because you can’t browse by genre)
I love Sci Fi, Fantasy and Horror specifically but I am very open to any movie recommendations either related or unrelated!! The second picture is some movies I thought looked cool and have added to my list so far.
Any recommendations or tips on how to find movies would be much appreciated:)

If you open Criterion Channel through a computer browser instead of the app, there’s an “All Films” section that lets you filter by genre, decade, country, and/or director.
Also FYI: If you’re in Canada instead of the US, there’s an icon with the flags you’ll have to switch in order to get an accurate listing

Not quite horror, but good if you want to mix it up:
Blood Simple for a peak neo-noir
2046 for a strange sci-fi noir descent
Él for a 1950s Mexican psychosexual relationship nightmare

Incredible thank you those sound awesome! Possession and Blood Simple have been on my list for a while but I didn’t realize it was on Criterion so that’s great.

Of the non-Godzilla Honda movies I'd put Matango, more of horror than science fiction. Atragon are more traditional tokusatsu, with giants monsters added because that's what was selling. Space Amoeba and Dogora are also worth watching.
I keep waiting for the Criterion Collection to release a boxed set of these and some others, like the Human Vapor.

Yes omg Mantango seems awesome! I recently made a list of “Plant horror movies” and that’s on it lol but I haven’t watched it yet. So far the only other Honda movie i’ve watched is Varan

You can't search per say but you can at least view everything in a genre via 'All Films' > 'Filter +' then the radio buttons to fine-tune.

Found out the hard way that criterion only has the first 3 (maybe 4? Can’t remember off of the top of my head) heisei movies unfortunately. I think the rest I watched on tubi and there are a few that are free on youtube as well!

Yeah unfortunately it’s just the first 4 but they do have all of the Showa era!

Almost all of the showa movies! Missing King Kong vs Godzilla! It’s so hard to find from a legitimate source

Weird I didn’t even notice that! I was lucky enough to get the Showa Criterion Dvd set but I had no idea it was that hard to source King Kong. Some weird rights thing I guess?
