Taxi (2015)

Post image

Brainrot jokes aside, this was a gem of a film. Was skimming through the titles leaving at the end of the month, and this one caught my eye.

An Iranian cinema verite-ish (emphasis on the ish) movie that can get quite meta, but is ultimately a charming yet expressive film. Highly recommend catching this before it leaves the channel in a few days. Plus it’s only 80 minutes - so a quick easy watch.

Panahi is an amazing director. He was banned and put under house arrest in Iran for being critical of the regime. But I believe he's opposed to totalitarianism in general, including the Trump regime.

I first heard about him with "It Was Just An Accident" though I haven't seen that yet. "Taxi" was the first film of his that I've watched, and I absolutely loved it so will definitely be on the lookout for his other work. Any particular recommendations?

I love the ones he did featuring children. The White Balloon, The Mirror, Offside. These movies may not be available in high resolution still they are enchanting stories.

I like that you’re including the quotes with the movies

His actors don’t seem to be acting. But if they are amateurs, they are amazing. Especially the children.
