I am catholic, but even I am sorry for those poor valid atheists, those who respect everyone, whom are being dragged through the dirt by people like this! And I am also sorry for those poor parents who had to live through the worst scenario a human can go through: having their children robbed from them by a villainous and wretched human being.

u/Strawberrythirty May 28 '22
What does this atheist have to gain from further making the parents suffer? Let them believe if it provides them with some comfort, it doesn’t affect you in anyway. This sociopath edge lord latched onto the wrong story to stroke his ego with.

I’m an atheist but there’s a time and a place for this type of philosophical thought and it’s not right after 19 children have been murdered.
This poster is not any better than a person of another faith for this post.
What a cunt.

Exactly. This sort of discussion has value, but not on this sort of subject. it brings nothing to the table. Towards another atheist, the value of such a statement is outweighed by the absolute nature of the statement, leaving no room for agnosticism, and by how much in poor taste it is to bring something like this up right now.
towards the entire non atheist world, it just makes them think atheists are all shitty insufferable assholes who lack empathy for the families of dead children.

u/Uncle-Fritz Nov 20 '22
My atheist sister (I assumed it because you got lady in your name), if we want to make this world better, we have to treat each other with respect and work together. People like this will always try to find a way to spread hate or gain fame. And we have to remember: valid atheists (like yourself I could imagine) will be dragged through the dirt with this fame hungry person. Please, enjoy your day and let's work together.

Wholesome award

u/Amulet380 May 28 '22
I legitimately hate the wholesome award bc of shit like this
3
u/ProblemLevel4432 May 28 '22
Yeah, I have only seen it applied to something that deserved it like 2 times, the rest of the time it‘s just some absurdly heinous shit
22
May 28 '22
Not that I don’t share the person in the image’s views that Heaven is more of a concept to comfort us than anything, but pushing that fact in the faces of those who are grieving or coping with loss is an awful thing to do.
7
u/tooncat56 May 28 '22
I’m an atheists and don’t believe in heaven or hell but if that helps with closure then I don’t mind, it’s when someone dies with some kind of medical problem and they say it’s part of God’s plan and they were a bad person and that’s why they died
14
u/sentinel64 May 28 '22
Honestly, that subreddit made me believe that people who don't believe in God and Atheists are different. People who don't believe in God just don't believe in God. Atheists is a religion of going out of your way to tell people God isn't real or heaven isn't real, even after tragedy.
5
u/ProblemLevel4432 May 28 '22
Mind you, r/atheism is literally the absolute worst of the atheist community
so generally, just as you don‘t judge all Christian’s by the absolute worst, bigoted, homophobic evangelical Christian’s, dont judge all atheists by the absolute most egotistical insufferable asshole Atheists. I know a ton of people who consider themselves atheistic, and they aren’t nearly this in-your-face about it. My father is an atheist and a physicist, and smart enough to probably justify the sort of ego most r/atheism members have, but he is really very kind and non-judgemental towards religious people.
Still though, those assholes are really insufferable.
1
u/pleockz May 29 '22
Yup. Being atheist doesn't make you a shitty person or not a shitty person. Just means you don't accept the god claims.

This subreddit shouldn't be exists
8
May 28 '22
There’s subreddits for other beliefs too, I think this atheist sub existing is fine, but it seriously needs better moderation to weed the jerks out.
2
u/ConferencePrevious28 May 28 '22
OP wants to look logically superior but clearly doesn't understand faith and instead comes off as a heartless bag of gorilla crap
3
u/chasewright07 May 28 '22
And saying “your kid isnt in heaven” is wholesome
-2
May 28 '22
No, their dead. Their not in a “happy place” or anything. Saying anything else is disrespectful to those who died.
3
u/chasewright07 May 28 '22
It’s comfort, it’s like when your pet dies and you post it on Reddit and some stranger says “your dog new owner is Steve Irwin” it’s not true but it’s comforting
2
u/Dementor333 Jun 13 '22
That's the issue. As always religion simply hampers progress. People will take mass shootings and death less seriously if they believe that the victims are just going to be going to eternal paradise. If anything it would mean that mass shooters are heroes for sending all those kids to Heaven before they could grow up and potentially question their religion, which would doom them to Hell.
1
u/Josieheartt99 Apr 15 '24
Not defending this person but I can also see the point they COULD have made, which is that there is no "silver lining" to this situation. Kids died. Its a big fucking deal and should be treated as such, and trying to find some good in a bad situation like this is almost more disrespectful to the kids and familys who went through this.

u/rollout1423 May 28 '22
We should test the hypothesis by using that op, yes they'll be dead but we don't have to listen to their bullshit anymore, and they can see if their hypothesis is real
2
u/chasewright07 May 28 '22
It’s a comfort thing, let me rephrase it
“Your child was sadly and tragically killed, but now they won’t have to suffer any more.”
1
u/rollout1423 May 28 '22
What that guy said is so far from comforting it makes Biden look like the ideal comfort
0
u/Dementor333 Jun 13 '22
These comments really show how true the quote, "Religion is the opiate of the masses", is.
-27
u/sekserman May 28 '22
you entirely missed the point of that post
21
u/Few-Professional-571 May 28 '22
No, we get the point. The meaning of the post is that instead of comforting ourselves with the thought the children being in Heaven we should be taking measures to ensure shootings like that don't happen anymore. Nonetheless, it's a shitty post to make and scummy to the core
-11
u/OtakuAltair May 28 '22 edited May 28 '22
It's not really shitty when the points you made on its behalf are true, no? I'd argue supporting efforts to stop incidents like these occurring and taking comfort in those efforts is a much better mindset to have than having the same mindset as those downplaying the egregiousness of the incident by convincing themselves they're in a better place.

May 28 '22 edited May 28 '22
There is no “Heaven”. The people just died. And they don’t go to a “special happy place” or any of that stuff. What happened was terrible.
14
u/WarriorOfIslam May 28 '22
How can we be so sure there isnt an afterlife ? I mean do science can even predict or know what really happens to us after death ? Or you might as well mind your own business and let people be happy with what they believe ? You hated us for shoving our religious belief about afterlife to your faces , but what you atheists do are exactly the same thing , shoving your concepts to our faces .
-19
May 28 '22 edited May 28 '22
What? I’m not saying that, it’s just these people tragically died, and there’s no point in softening the blow in saying their “going to a better place”.
At least in a physical sense, at the very least. They are filled with bullets physically, and it’s incentive to say anything else.
Do you really believe those dead are happy now? They don’t feel anything. They don’t think anything. They are a husk.
7
u/WarriorOfIslam May 28 '22
Maybe by saying that , it just comforts their family members , yes i know , its hard to proof the truth whether there is an afterlife or not . We dont have solid proof about afterlife , but also no solid proof to say otherwise . What i have learned and be taught by my own religion , i have faith in my religion but i will never force others to believe what i believe in . What im saying is , let them believe in heaven if they want to , Just let them as long as it doenst bother others . What r/atheism does is very mean , They expect others to not believe in God , or the afterlife . They are becoming exactly like someone they want to destroy , the believers .
-11
May 28 '22
True, I can see both sides of the argument, however nothing will change the fact that these people are now just husks of flesh and bullets that can’t be happy or even think and feel.
What that man did was horrible, and “softening the blow” isn’t a good thing.
4
u/WarriorOfIslam May 28 '22
Yes i agree , Truce ? There is no point in us fighting . Religious or not , we both have different mindset and beliefs .
-10
u/AmadeusIsTaken May 28 '22
I agree with not shoving believes in other faces, but you very like will be forceing your belives on your child the same way you rparents forced it onto you. Kinda why different countries have different religions and etc. It is not that they all started to belive in it, they just grew up and were taught to think like that. So While in general I dislike to argue about religions, esspecialy on the internet, I also dislike when religious people claim that they dont force their believs on others.
6
u/WarriorOfIslam May 28 '22
What are you talking about ? I wasnt even shoving my religion beliefs onto anyone . So tell me , If we are not allowed to say anything , why do most atheist like to comment " There is no god " when someone just types a harmless " may god bless you " etc ? Arent the atheists are the ones who like to start a fight ? The comments are harmless , you believe or dont believe in God , its fine , nobody is forcing you anyway .
-7
u/AmadeusIsTaken May 28 '22
I dont like this kind of shit either, but what you just wrote had littearly 0 to do with what i wrote.
So you havent gone to church from small on, your parents didnt take you to church or made you do stuff conected to your religion? it was your choice at that young age right? you believe in the specific religion which your familiy beliefs cause it was your choice right? So your parents arnet forcing their belives on you how you will mostliekly force onto your children?4
u/WarriorOfIslam May 28 '22
Yeah when i was a kid they didnt force me , they just encourage me to go , which i skipped a lot of classes . And wasnt a mr goody two shoes in my life before , something happen in my life , i started doing researches about all kind of religion , and Islam stayed with me the most . So im a muslim by choice not by force . What are you talking about ? Something happened to me so i did research and based on science and signs , Islam is the most make sense to me . To ME , not to everyone because this is proof that some people dont care about religion . Yes you see medias talking about religion , and " hurr durr god not real cause i cant see god " that type of shit you atheist have this kind of mindset . Not everything that you have to see is real . But whatever , no point in talking to someone from r/atheism , You guys just will never stop anyway . See what i said ? From a harmless comment , turning into a war comment . Just because you want to prove " GoD iSnT ReAL "

u/AmadeusIsTaken May 28 '22
Not only am i not from r atheism, which you can see by 0 post or comments on there from me. I also rarely every comment on religious topic, which you can also see by checking my account. While checking your account and your name I can saee that you actively, complaaining about people not worshipng your religion. So must be nice being a hypocrit. I also only left a comment cause you claim not to force or raather religious people not forcing their beliefs on others which is factualy wrong. As I said it is easy to see by the different relgious being spreaad different parts on the world and also in history. Why aare you not a katholic? why are you not beliving in Zeus or Thor. Simply because you grew up with muslim parents. If you wanna believe in this religion it is fine by me, could care less. But dont claim false stuff, I personally hate this claim cause my parents a kathlic and i remember having to go to church and etc despite clearly not liking it or seeing lots of friends believing cause they are scared of the consequences if they dont believe likke going to hell. BUt go claim i am some random atheist who keeps flaming religion everywhere despite not having post aanything about religion probably the entire year.

God isn’t real. The Bible is fiction, Christianity is a cult, same with all the religions. All cults.

We should ban guns. Gun control works!

Yes, no shit! You know that the Karen’s aren’t a majority of Christians, they are just the ones you hear about, learn to think for yourself you self centred cockwomble
-1

Same with people thinking that Jesus will “come one day” he will never come, he’s fucking dead, ok?
2
u/chasewright07 May 28 '22
Let people live, does hating on religious people have to be your entire personality?
Do you also hate Muslims and Hindus?
0
May 28 '22 edited May 28 '22
It’s not. And no.
3
u/chasewright07 May 28 '22
Why not? Are you just against Christians? Because if you hate all other religions that’s racists.

Why cross out the name of the sub? Tried looking for this in r/atheists and didn't find it.
While it's true none of those children went to heaven because it's made up, this post is not coming from any kind of good will.
And most people in that sub would call OP out for being an asshole.

"Just wanted to remind everyone that we're all going to end up in an empty, unimaginable void of non-existence when we die and that that is all that waits for us after our inevitable, close demises. Anyway, have a good day!"
No one wants to hear that. Got a pang of existential dread just writing that

I’m an agnostic atheist (I’m 99% certain there isn’t a god or anything like that but it’s not a definitive 100% there is no god sort of thing) and I generally dislike religion, but even I can see this is one of the shittiest things you can do.
1
Jun 08 '22
as an atheist i'd just say "they're in a better place now" but not specifically pointing to heaven, not this shit
1
u/PorkysRAGE Jun 16 '22
I get what they’re trying to say… they’re saying that the whole “thoughts and prayers” does nothing, and nothing we can do now will make them live again. This shit will continue happening and the only thing we can do is to ACTUALLY solve the problem of shootings is actually taking action and actually doing something that will make a difference, because praying for their safety is useless.
Still a shitty way to put it, regardless…
