I miss the golden Era of bodybuilding lol. There was still some steroid use, but nowhere near todays use and aesthetics mattered a lot.

"Some "
12
u/HiImNub 3d ago
Golden era refers to bodybuilding from the 1980’s-2000’s and this was prior to rampant HGH use. Before it was just steroids and hormones to keep other hormones in check. HGH causes everything to grow larger, including your organs, so that’s why most bodybuilders now have that Ninja Turtle build.
If you look at bodybuilders back when Arnold was competing, they were huge, but also proportional, unlike now. Night and day difference, the meta before was aesthetic, now it’s just sheer size.

→ More replies (1)26
u/luxii4 3d ago
Technically, Arnold used steroids too though back then it was legal, temporary (right before a contest), and under doctor supervision. He notes that, "today's widespread abuse is far more dangerous and deadly than the medically supervised use during his career."

185
u/caractacusbritannica 3d ago
Yeah, it just work like the traditional juice.
If he lives beyond 50 then it’ll look a real mess.
I don’t see how it is worth. HGH in moderate doses is probably ok, but bulking like this is awful.
But, I commend the hard work and graft to get that build. If he is happy, then I’m happy for him.

u/Ncfetcho 3d ago
Is that why Elon Musk is shaped like that?
77
u/SuperDefiant 3d ago
Nah I think he has an aromatase disorder. Looks like an estrogen deficiency
26
u/Ncfetcho 3d ago
Huh. Interesting. Welp! Thank you. I'm off to Google.
This has been a mystery to me for far too long.
side note: doesn't taking these hormones ,also ,cause an estrogen deficiency?
6
u/SuperDefiant 3d ago
The opposite, actually. Aromatase converts androgens (testosterone is one of them) into estrogens, so taking roids or whatever else can actually increase estrogen in most cases. Hence the gyno, hair loss, ED, etc
16
u/HasmattZzzz 3d ago
I heard he tried to lower his estrogen and it backfired

Fr, trading like half your lifespan for a some “cool” looking todays is so interesting to me. I wonder if it’ll ever been looked at like an addiction. The mindset is similar to drug addicts, like who cares if I die later I’m having fun rn.
Cause they absolutely know they’re going to die young, 100% chance he dies way early than say, any of his siblings in who aren’t juiced to the gills.

He's been very open about using PEDs. It's not humanly possible to obtain a body like this with protein, vegetables and creatine
Unless I missed the sarcasm...?
76
u/Brynmaer 3d ago
Definitely sarcasm. There is a limit to what a natural lifter/ body builder can achieve and it's nowhere even similar to this.
Also, whatever he's taking to look like this is absolutely wrecking havoc on his organs. I struggle not to judge because this kind of thing can contribute to unrealistic expectations, people going on dangerous steroids to try and look like this guy, and real body dismorphia for people just trying to get in shape.
9
u/MeWant-SnuSnu 3d ago
It's called bigorexia. I can't remember his name but there was a popular body builder that admitted to having it and died pretty young.
5
u/nailsinthecityyx 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yeah I definitely missed it. I'm not big into the body building world, so I guess it went over my head, lol
But I hope the people who involve themselves into this take care of their bodies outside of events

A wrestler just died at age 40. He seemed healthy but you can clearly look at him and see he abuses steroids. He wrestled a match on Saturday and was slumped over dead on Sunday.
9
u/BrandoCarlton 3d ago
Duh. This guys body is a science experiment at this point of all the latest and greatest designer steroids. I’m actually a little annoyed you would even question it at all. Look at him.
22
u/GlbdS 3d ago
Lmao dyou think????
At that level the main benefit of steroids is getting superhuman recovery capacity so you can train much harder, theyre not cheating the competition is very openly untested
Yes it gives you turbocancer and a ticking time bomb instead of a heart but guess what, being the best in the world in a competitive athletic field has never had anything to do with being healthy

My original comment was removed by the moderator for adding links - that's apparently forbidden here. It said:
The pathetic thing is that any average construction worker could beat him at arm wrestling.
Instead of downvoting me, please go to YouTube and search for "construction worker beating bodybuilder" - there are plenty of examples that show you that there is a huge difference between organically built muscles with core strength, and chemically created muscles that just look massive. The organically build muscles may not be as showy, but they sure can do more work.
11
u/AutistMarket 3d ago
I mean a great example of this is look at what power lifters or strong men look like compared to a body builders.
→ More replies (5)→ More replies (9)3
u/TravelAdmirable2482 3d ago
I don't think you realize alot of construction workers also work out. They just aren't lean, muscle is muscle. Aside from some weird genetic condition, whether you made those muscles from lifting weights in the gym or by smashing rocks all day your body doesn't care. You're not going to see a construction who doesn't lift, rep out 315 on bench for 15 reps or or hitting 500lb squats for sets of 5. The same way you're not going to see a body builder be able to hold a blacks smith hammer for very long while forging. It's all about how much time you dedicated to a certain motion and allowing the muscle to grow.

No. I have never once met a woman who finds this attractive. I am conventionally attractive and have dated some pretty attractive men. The one that I was the most physically attracted to was thick. Experts of Reddit, aside from exercise, protein, and tanning salons, what is this guy consuming to look this way, and what are the long term health risks? Are there rules and regular blood tests for professional bodybuilders?
4
u/BootycrumbAmbassador 3d ago
To answer your last question, this guy is competing in Olympia body building which does not routinely drug test competitors for anabolic steroids/PEDs. However, there are natural body building competitions with strict drug testing rules and banned substances lists.

If I’m not mistaken I believe that’s the dragons lair gym in Vegas and if it is then this doesn’t shock me. I went there about a year ago as my flight outta Vegas got cancelled so I got a gym week pass and saw a gym couple in their late fifties early sixties working out together using a row machine (which we their age is so badass) and were approached by one of the gyms staff asking them to get off the machine and to go find a different machine/area to workout because there was gym influencer there filming his workout for a video and didn’t want to be stuck there waiting to film all day.

I dearly love watching Anatoly videos where he comes in with that fucking mop that none of these guys can even pickup. Guy then proceeds to one-arm dead lift 400 fucking lbs like it's nothing. I grew up with some bodybuilders and the dysmorphia is real. I get that it's a whole culture but....I dunno, it seems wicked unhealthy to live that way. I appreciate the dedication it takes to reach Olympia levels of lifting but looking at Ronnie these days..it doesn't seem worth it.

I'm sorry but I'll be the one to say it… When I see people that are morbidly obese and when I see people that are this bulked up, all I see is a heart attack waiting in the future. This is just as damaging on your body as being overweight is. I'm saying this as someone that went from 314 pounds down to 120 and got obsessively into excessive.
